You can also clean up your strat-up:
Go to start>>run>>type in “msconfig”>>click on the “start-up” tab (the very last one)>>unslect the boxes next to what you don’t use>>click okay
😉wellllllllll… you have to be very careful using msconfig… it’s very easy to screw up your computer if you dont know what you’re doing or what the items are. a lot of times there’s seemingly random entries, but those are actually vital system files… so beware when using msconfig, use at your own risk
msconfig is dangerous!…but the startup tab in msconfig is usually not…you can “disable” most all items and it will be fine with no dire consequences…IF and only IF you are using XP, of course, since most XP start-up options are completely optional. I agree with Tiger though that if you are a noobie…be wary, you may not know the difference between optional items and important items at first glance. But cleaning your startup is very helpful if you have low memory (RAM).
What I sometimes do is either put my computer to safemode and do the scandisk & defragment.
OR if you have Norton Antivirus, as you scan your computer for viruses it also corrects errors and defragments your computer all at the same time. I also use Norton Disk Doctor just in cast your computer has any corrupted files or missing shortcuts. It will fix up your computer. There is also this GO BACK software that you can get just in case your computer desides to crash. You can go back to how it was before it crashed. It’s a lot better then formatting your computer and reinstalling windows and reinstalling your updates for it too.So when you clean up your comp, go to the windows update site and see if you need an update.

When fixing up my computer, i’ve found this website useful: http://www.pcpitstop.com/ . There’s a full system test just to find weak points in your pc. and also their forums are helpful if you have any questions/problems
