MemberPatchou says:
Hello,
My friends, I have sad news. After several emails sent to various sections of Microsoft, the Microsoft Anti-Spyware problem that currently plagues Messenger Plus! has not been solved. This particular branch of Microsoft seems to persist in denying the obvious truth which is that their software is damaging some of their users’ computers by detecting Messenger Plus! when the sponsor is not installed and by reporting and deleting files they have no reason to detect in the first place.
As I do care about my users myself, I have decided that the only proper and peaceful way (meaning, outside a court of law) to solve this matter was to create a special petition. This petition describes the problem in details and I encourage all of you, supporter of Messenger Plus! or not, to read it in details and to not jump to conclusions. My only wish is for Messenger Plus! to be treated as it ought to be, nobody should tolerate anti-spyware programs that create a mess on computers in the name of “protection” anymore. This is not about removing advertisement, this is about arbitrary assigning threat levels to products that should be left alone.
Please, read and sign the petition and send the link to all your friends, the very life of Messenger Plus! depends on it as well as the future of software distribution rights (yes, nothing less).
Thank you,
Patchou

MemberI’ve just signed the petition. MsgPlus is an amazing add on and I can’t imagine using MSN without it.

MemberI’ve signed. Microsoft are ridiculous for not sorting out the problem. I put Messenger Plus! on my ignore list to get around the problem.

KeymasterDread, the news gets displayed on our front page, and is picked up in our news RSS feed (separate from our forums rss feed), but I put a link to this in the MSN Support forum — just in case.
I’ve used Messenger Plus but it’s not something I can’t live without. One of the main reasons I liked it was for logging, but that’s been in the core MSN Messenger product for a while now. I’m not into the sound effects or scripts really; I use instant messaging for basic communication.
But I will say that Patchou’s Messenger Plus! is the best add-on I’ve seen for any instant messenger, bar none. He’s created a very professional, well-supported product that sets the standard for all add-ons.
I only wish for one thing — provide a “paid” version of Messenger Plus! that is complete stripped of all the controversial adware stuff. Yes, I know it’s optional, but I’d rather pay $10 for a lifetime license and never worry about Microsoft AntiSpyware futzing with the Messenger Plus files (or alarming the less technically saavy users in my household). How about it, Patchou?

MemberIf patchou were to make it so the adware was seperate from the Messenger Plus package they wouldn’t classify messenger plus as spyware.

MemberRead the petition. The problem is that ms antispyware is deleting msg plus and leaving the advertisements behind. How crazy is that. Its not even removing the advertisements. There is other things to read the petition. Yes it would be nice if it didn’t have the sponsor but patchou needs the money. I think ms antispyware should detect the adware not msgplus. As far as I know ms antispyware is the only antispyware product to do this to msgplus. The others do not detect msgplus they only detect the adware, they way it should be.

MemberIt’s either the optional sponsor, or we pay for it. I know which I’d prefer. You don’t get many add-ons which are as good as Messenger Plus! and still are free.

MemberUgh…even the thought of MSN without Messenger Plus! is scary. Everyone must sign! Help us save Messenger Plus. So far, I told 3 people on my MSN Messenger list, and I signed myself.

MemberMsgPlus screwed up your computer? Right… I’ve never had any problems with it. Did you install the optional sponsor program by any chance?
