ok. I’m trying to sync my logs/settings between Linux (Ubuntu-Feisty Fawn) and My Windows XP.
Now I set up a nice *.sh script in Ubuntu to load up the config folder:
Code:pidgin -c “/media/stuff/Profiles/.purple”and a similar *.bat file in windows:
Code:“c:Program FilesPidginpidgin.exe” –config=F:Profiles.purple(the folder /media/stuff is shared via network so both computers can access it at the same time)
Now my problems:
1) it appears that plugins reset to their defaults everytime I load pidgin. The default being not activated. And I don’t want that.
2) Windows has a nice feature in Pidgin: (Tools>Prefrences>Status/Idle>Report idle time:) Which lets me set it so that when my computer is in use, Pidgin realizes I’m here. Linux doesn’t have this feature, so whenever I’m at my computer and not chatting, it makes me idle and away. Is there a way to fix that?June 20, 2007 at 12:02 am #162004RU Still DownMemberQuote:Now I set up a nice *.sh script in Ubuntu to load up the config file:1) the batch file references a folder “Profiles” the shell script references a folder “Profile”. either pidgin is using two different config folders or is only using the default for one of the installs. also .purple should be a folder not a file according to pidgin –help:

Sorry, i haven’t installed the latest Pidgin on this linux box yet. When i get back home i’ll check it out for you.

My bad. I did mean the folder, not the file.
The *.sh file goes to the folder “/.purple/”Not quite sure what you’re saying though…I’m pretty sure I’m doing it right…

Guess they switched Away/Idle for Status Idle…but maybe I should Check Gaim to see if it has that feature…unfortunately I think it’d be a lot harder to store preferences if one computer used Pidgin and the other Gaim.

sh >> pidgin -c “/media/stuff/Profile/.purple”
bat >> “c:Program FilesPidginpidgin.exe” –config=F:Profiles.purplethey are referencing two different folders: Profile and Profiles. I was just saying maybe that’s why your settings aren’t being saved. one of those folders doesn’t exist so no preferences are saved.

*sigh* My bad again. I need to start copying and pasting.
the sh >> pidgin -c “/media/stuff/Profiles/.purple”
bat >>(what you have above)I’m going to fix my initial post, since I keep making mistakes….
Edit: But what I should say, is I just realized that My Linux settings are still there after running it in windows. I think this time I didn’t configure Pidgin in windows, so it kept my settings for Linux. Maybe they just don’t talk to each other well, and I’ll have to pick one computer to have settings that I want…

ok, well, for some reason they decided to leave it out of Pidgin. Gaim does indeed have that feature that I was hoping for. and Pidgin for windows has it. so why doesn’t Pidgin for linux have it? who knows….
