MemberHaving been using Windows for quite some time, there’s always been a few features I’ve just been so surprised and flabbergasted to see are *still* not offered with Windows. I’m not talking about features that could be classified as mere bells and whistles but rather..things that just “make sense” to be a part of Windows.
So why are they not there? I have no clue.
A feature I have been searching for for a long time finally came to fruition thanks to Jay E of the nerd cave – although it should be noted that similar programs have existed in the past, none of them have even come close to the way he implemented the functionality into Windows.
What’s this feature you ask?
The ability to re-order your taskbar buttons and your system tray icons by merely dragging and dropping them.Taskbar Shuffle comes in two flavours: an installer or a single executable (for those of us who want to use it on a portable drive or something…) as well as the option to not utilise the registry to store its settings.
Taskbar Shuffle allows you to:
- Reorder your task bar by simply dragging and dropping each button to wherever you want
- Reorder your system tray icons by holding down a hotkey and then dragging and dropping them wherever you want
- Middle click to close a taskbar button
So, Taskbar Shuffle effectively changes your taskbar into an Opera/Firefox-esque tab-bar like taskbar as you can re-order tabs by dragging and dropping them and close tabs by middle clicking on them in those browsers. From the minute I first installed it, I couldn’t live without it.
It just makes my tasks so much easier and faster, because all my tasks are grouped right next to each other.
But most importantly, this program is completely FREE!
What are you waiting for? Download Taskbar Shuffle now!

MemberI’ve asked in IRC if there was a way to do this or not, and you’ve just answered my prayers. I agree totally, this is something that should have been there from Day 1, thanks for letting us know about this free, awesome tool. Rep++

ParticipantAmazing. I love the middle click to close too, I use this all the time in Opera!
