MemberI’ve been trying about 5-10 different methods of saving my buddy icon to my harddrive because I can’t find it on my HD. NONE are working.
If someone is willing to help even more, or “steal” it and send it to me then don’t hesitate to add me on your list.
AIM: SpectatorAroundU
I will of course check this topic too.
Oh and I’m using Win XP.

MemberScreen shot your buddy icon…then cut it out using any picture editor..save!
Not the best way..but will work anyway (assuming it’s not animated?)

MemberThere’s a folder where they’re all stored, but the names of the files aren’t plain and simple, especially if you have a lot of people you’re talked to.
If you’re on 2000/XP:
The easiest way is to first go to C:Documents and Settingsyour XP user nameApplication DataAimbartcache1 and cut and paste all the contents into a separate folder. Now fire up your screen name on AIM and open an IM window to yourself and wait until you see the icon displayed. Go back into the folder I mentioned, and there should be one file in there. Add .gif to the filename and you should now be able to view it. You can cut and paste that to a safe place and you’ll have your icon saved. Now move all the other files you first moved, back into that folder.Windows isn’t too picky about displaying common image extensions locally, so if your image isn’t a gif, it will display it anyways since AIM limits you on what extensions you can use for your buddy icon (and for the debators out there–unless you “cheat” and change the extension…no, you aren’t the only one that knows about that).
So if your image isn’t animated, go ahead and change it to jpg just to play it safe. Changing the extension, in NO way, changes what the file is; it only changes what the application(s) is supposed to do with it when you open/use the image. This is why it’s safe to open it as a gif and still see the image, because all the original data is still there, it’s just trying to display it with the instructions on how it’s supposed to display a gif. Windows picture and fax viewer is really relaxed about displaying images, so that’s a good application to open your image with to see if it’s animated or not.
Hope that helps!
