KeymasterIm trying to open up port 5190 so aim wont sign me off every few minutes, and ive just got one question, by server ip address does it mean the ip address of my computer or the ip address of the aim server that I want to connect to?
Oh and is there any other servers for aim to connect to, if there are could someone please leave me some info on them.Thanks.

MemberForwarding the port isn’t going to keep you connected to AIM. Because you are making the connection, there is no need to forward the port. Port forwarding is for servers, hence why it asks you for the server IP. The server IP would be your machine if it was being in a server, in this case, make it your internal IP if you insist port forwarding will work.
Other servers to connect to AIM with have been posted many different times by many different people on this forum, try searching at the top.
The reason I doubt this would work is port forwarding is meant so when a connection from the outside comes in, the router routes it to the appropriate server… I have about 7 or 8 machines on my network, behind a router, some behind another switch…everybody connects to AIM fine.

MemberActually, port forwarding could help. With my router, I kept getting signed off and on again. I changed the ports and it worked for me.
Thebiggster, do you have a router?

MemberHere is why I seriously doubt you need to have your ports forwarded, I, like many others use AIM behind routers on many machines…there isn’t a need for port forwarding.
Aside from that, port forwarding is meant for someone to be able to access a server remotely, you don’t need it for AIM. I have a NetGear router, no port forwarding required. I urge you all to look for other means instead of opening ports that could allow data to be routed to your machine (malicious data too).
