I have seen all the scrolling text, and lots of Dings. But I want a yahoo chat room the other night, and a user was posting jpegs directly in the room. Not a hyperlink, but the actual pictures. He would not tell anyone how he was doing it and I have not been able to find out. Does anyone know how to accomplish this? If you do, please be so kind as to let me know how!
Thanks
December 17, 2001 at 12:17 am #69270Jeff HesterKeymasterHi Handi and welcome to BigBlueBall!
I don’t know what it is about the IM “tricks” but there are a lot of people who don’t want to share. I don’t get it, but I guess it makes them feel special to know what others don’t.
As for posting images, I’m not really sure. The closest thing I’ve seen to that was something posted at one of my favorite sites for stuff on Yahoo Messenger: WackyB. They had some recent posts in their forums on creating text with a background image.
For example, copy and paste this into your Yahoo IM window and send it:
<font size=16 style=background:url(http://home.kimo.com.tw/aoeex2/0023.gif)> Merry X-Mas from http://wackyb.co.nz
You should see a Christmas greeting from WackyB with twinkling stars in the background. The trouble with this is that the background image only appears behind text.
So, Yahoo Messenger provides some limited support for HTML, and there must be a way to do it (you’ve seen it), but I don’t know what it is… YET!

You can enter the space character as an ASCII code: just string together “&” “nbsp” “;” (removing the quotes), and repeat as necessary.

March 11, 2002 at 11:18 pm #69280jinxkittenMemberHi, i was hunting for new smileys, and ran across Scotto’s page,
http://www.geocities.com/scottoslab/
It has two sets of new smileys, teddy bears and aliens.. and also what he calls clippies…. the ones he has are his own, but i think the format could be used for any graphic that exists online?Just type, in the lil typing box (does that have a proper name??:) )
““
(without the quotes, of course) to get a small heart. For some reason, i also get the final angle bracket, and have found droppping it…
“<img src="http://scottoslab.tripod.com/ym/heart.gif" BORDER=0"
works perfectly well, and eliminates the bracket….See Scottos page for more of his, or try your own… *S* hope this helps, enjoy!

March 13, 2002 at 9:45 pm #69276detn8rParticipantdamn y can i think of all my things in one post eh! grrr
ne ways, i think i had posted that i was using a program called ho0ka, what this is”supposed” to be is a booter program, but the “booter” part of it doesnt work on it, but it does have some really cool other effects like: what jeff had showed, the merry x-mas text… there is an example of the spirkling above… with the program u can type ur own text and it will “spirkile” “bleed effect” etc… about 10 different ones. in this part of the program it also has a button called the “osama binladen button” wut this does if u click on it, it sends a pic to the IM of a pic of osama binladen’s actual pic changing to a devil…(sry to ne 1’s religin this migh offend) it also has a picture sender…ive never used it yet, but that might just be that pic sender into the chat room, i have to enter a hyperlink 4 the pic, as far as i know, and it will send th pic… i downloaded this program in an email, and if i can/have tyme i will post the url for the download, or u can emai and request this program @ [email protected]… and i will email it to u.tkz ppl

May 2, 2002 at 2:10 am #69282dallas_dentonMemberhi, i have been trying for a couple days now to figure out this clippie thing, and have yet to make it work. I have the newest version of messenger, and the people i am testing with have the same, i copy and paste the links from both the message board and scotto’s web site, and yet all i get in the chat window is exactly what is typed. am i doing something wrong? or is there setting somewhere that is stopping them from comming threw? i have tried quite a few different ways, and nothing seems to work, i did however notice, that the part of the message dissapears, but the rest of the message comes out exactly as typed, with no picture. can some please help,
Thanks
DentonMay 2, 2002 at 3:21 am #69267Jeff HesterKeymasterI did some research on this, since lot’s of people have asked, and the best info I found comes from WackyB’s Messenger forum.
Bottom line is that back in version 5,0,0,1036 you could do it using one of these two methods:
- The same as sending a web page, but sending an image instead:
<iframe height=100% width=100%
src="http://www.uwex.edu/ces/wihort/images/Juglone1.jpg"> - The other way is sending the image with a normal image tag:
Unfortunately, Yahoo chose to strip out this capability of the newer releases, and they appear to have removed the ability to send background pictures, too (like mentioned above). Why? Probably because anytime you allow people to insert HTML code, you open the door for all sorts of security holes, booters and other problems.
So it appears that sending pics in your message is, for now… history.
