Hi,
Im having a problem connecting to Yahoo Messenger. I can log in on the site to check mail, but when I put my login info in messenger and click login it just idles. I am not behind a firewall or at work. Also I have my cookies enabled. When I try and create a new account name through the messenger program it says it cant connect to the yahoo server. I also tried making a new account on the website and when I try and log in with the new one on messenger, it does the same thing..just sits there. Any ideas?April 16, 2004 at 7:21 pm #81095doc rockMemberOK. First of all, this could just be due to the Yahoo servers being down or busy. They have been making a lot of changes to them in the last few weeks.
However, YAHOO Messenger has been having many invalid login password problems lately. If you are unable to log in to Messenger but are able to log into your account to access information, mail, and My YAHOO then please visit the following web page and fill out the form to notify YAHOO so that they can fix your account as soon as possible. Be sure to mention that you can access all other areas of your account with the exception to Messenger.

It may also help for you to clear your temporary cache, although from the sounds of it, the Yahoo servers are just temporarily down or busy.
April 16, 2004 at 8:34 pm #81096RizzMemberHey Thanks for the fast reply and the link. I will see if they can fix it.
thanks again!! – RyanApril 17, 2004 at 5:05 am #81094doc rockMemberyou are very welcome. I hope it helps, but I have this nagging feeling in my gut that tells me that most of the problems that have been occurring recently are due to Yahoo server changes. Many accounts are being locked or trapped in limbo do to a major lag in the servers.
I am predicting, along with several others who know more than I that we may be in store for a new version of messenger very soon. Anyhow, we are stuck with the present fixes until Yahoo gets done so that we can analyze the changes they have made and start over again. Best of luck.

above is a small download, that when used will quickly clean out your old cookies and temp files. Even hidden temp files, which helps when my computer lags and doesn’t want to connect in messenger.
It is a free download and comes in handy. After you use it you should reboot your computer and try re-connecting to messenger or whichever site your trying to gain access to.
Of course this may not solve your issues but it certainly won’t hurt them. Like doc rock has said IM’s are having problems and this can also keep things slow.
Good luck.
May 31, 2006 at 11:08 am #81097DermotParticipantKates, Do you mean it wont open your default browser from messenger?
Y! Messenger voice messages may be set to delete on every exit..
however i think its a file association problem you are having meaning the filetype’s yahoo messenger uses are not been called right and default application called is “nothing” so no browser is opening.
Go into Control Panel and double click Folder Options
Go to Filetypes tab find URL calls’ and make sure there is a browser defined…like the picture below/attached is how i have Bon Echo defined as the browser to open the listed URL protocols.
I believe Yahoo! messenger 7.5 fixes this issue by just using shell execute to open url’s but if the browser is not set it still wont open, firefox causes this problem when you uninstall it as it doesnt return filetype properly to internet explorer.
However you can click advanced and then edit and browse to IE or your firefox exe to define that browser for that filetype. Nornally browsers do this by asking you to be your default browser, whatever you choose ends up been the default calling browser.
This may not be your issue but one to look into nonetheless.
Hope it helps.June 1, 2006 at 1:36 am #81102katesMemberSorry, yes it’s the browser links that seem to be playing up. I’ve discovered that it happens with Skype also. I’ve checked the file associations as you indicated and all that appear seem to have the correct browser settings. The only one I don’t have appearing in the list is the “URL:Call To Protocol”
Could it be this missing file association that is causing the problem? and if so, can I add it?June 18, 2006 at 9:52 am #81099Eagle_KiwiMemberI’m puzzled here!
I have XP-SP2, and YM 7.5, and never a problem with clicking links in YM.But anyway for interest I checked MY File Associations, and I also have no “URL:Call To Protocol” in there.
(I used to use IE, but recently switched my default browser to Firefox. No YM link problems either side of that change). So while adding that MAY help, it’s surely not necessary, or the only way, to fix the problem, Kates.
(Can you shed any more light here, Dermot ?)
June 21, 2006 at 4:54 am #81098DermotParticipantURL:Call to Protocol will only appear if you pick yes to making yahoo! messenger your default calling program.

Now try.
