I work in a gov’t building that has a firewall. I do not have admin access so I can not download AIM. I can however sign on to aim express. The problem is this only allows me to send IM’s to people but if I try to view someone profile or someone tries to IM me it kicks me off and I never receive the message. Has anyone ever heard of this problem? Please help me i’m dying here without AIM! Thanks!

That isn’t his problem/
The reason I assume you are being kicked off is because the profiles are viewed with your web browser, so your corporate firewall realized what you are doing, and then is disconnects / kicks you off. Maybe use a proxy server?
June 8, 2004 at 10:18 pm #78698XeonMemberThat might have something to do with there firewall blocking the AIM servers, or a problem with AIM Express. You should try some AIM Express alternatives. Such as the old QuickBuddy which you can find here http://toc.oscar.aol.com/tic.html or you can use the older version of AIM Express which is located here http://aimexpress.oscar.aol.com/aimexpress/launch.adp. Hope that solves your problem.
June 10, 2004 at 3:44 pm #78695VTHokieMemberwell I actually was able to get copy of AIM installed on my computer here at work. Problem is I don’t know what the proxy settings or port are. none of the other versions of aim express work here except the newest one which only allows me to send IM’s not receive. any ideas?
June 10, 2004 at 3:54 pm #78697_Max_MemberJust don’t use proxy: My AIM, Edit Options, Edit Perefrences, Sign On/Off, Conection, Then just uncheck the “connect using proxy” box. Under port, you can put “5190” and host: “login.oscar.aol.com”
