MemberHi recently when I try to get rid of the Buddy box on Messenger it cuts me off. Normally i can click on the ‘X’ and the box dissapears but I can still chat. Now when I click it Messenger just goes altogether and a few minutes later the icon comes up on the toolbar as signed out. 😡 Has anyone heard of this and a possible solution?
Thanks for any replys. :rolleyes:March 31, 2003 at 4:14 am #97331Spider_man
MemberWhat version are you running? Is it MSN messenger or Windows messenger?

MemberIt’s MSN messenger 5.0.0543. I have all my settings to the way they were before it started doing this so I can’t understand it and it’s really doing my head in. Sometimes it’s ok and I can click the ‘X’ button but it seems to be quite arbitrary 😡
Be great if someone could solve this. Microsoft still haven’t replied 🙁April 3, 2003 at 7:30 am #97337Unknow123

MemberOk, i think i found a solution for this…
Step 1.- Uninstall MSN Messenger 5 from Add/Remove Programs.
2.- Start/Run.. “regedit” (without quotes) and press enter.
3.- Go to HKEY_USERSS-1-5-21-606747145-688789844-1957994488-1003SoftwareMicrosoftMSNMessenger and remove
the entire “MSNMessenger” folder.
4.- Reinstall MSN 5, and the problem must be gone...Ok, thie worked for me (Win XP SP1, MSN 5.0.0543) work with the registry must be risky, but sometimes is the only way.
Sorry for me english, im Mex guy. 😀 I hope this help.

MemberHi there I had a look at the registry and it seems like all contacts are kept there so by deleting this wouldn’t I lose all of them and have to remeber all their e-mail addys and then re-enter them? With a lot of contacts it seems like a pretty harsh way to go about things.
Thanks for replying and tell me if I’m wrong.April 4, 2003 at 6:36 pm #97335Unknow123
MemberNo, your contacts are safe, and you can always save your contact list from, MSN main window “File/Save contact list…” and import them, but just in case that you change your sign-in account.
Greetz..
