1. What firewall do you use? And is it up to date and always running?
2. What spyware scanner do you use? And have you scanned recently with up to date definitions?
3. Have you ever run and analyzed a Hijackthis Log?
4. Do you have any 3rd party add-ons to your WLM such as Mess or Plus!?It is extremely likely you have spyware or a virus that’s causing this behavior. I’ll ask for your patience as we work through these steps it could take a few days to sort out. In the mean time remember you can access web messenger for the short term.
I’ll await your answers.

Go to start then run and put in %temp% and you should see the directory MessengerCache. Delete everything in that directory and then try and see if it crashes if it does Click on “What data does this error contain” and see what the problem is.

When you say you don’t have spyware I’m not sure if you mean you scanned and it didn’t find any, or you don’t have a spyware scanner. If you don’t have one, go to filehippo.com – Download Free Software and download the current verson of Ad-Aware, update the definitions and run it. Spyware can make programs misbehave. If you have Windows Defender and think it is enough to protect you – it is not. I have it on, but it has never once caught a thing whereas Ad-Aware finds quite a bit each week when I run it.
Did you follow the directions dread posted above? If so what was the outcome?
Also at Filehippo you can download the latest HijackThis version. I’d run a log and look to see if you’ve picked up a browser hijacker or virus you may not be aware of (and of course deal with any such results accordingly.) If you are not familiar with how to read one, please PM me and I’ll give you an email address where you can send me an email with the results pasted in and I’ll gladly give it a once over for you.
Are you having any other problems with your internet access, or is this the only program that isn’t working properly? Also, had you made any system changes when WLM started acting up? Are you on Windows XP SP2 or Vista?
