Someone sent me a screenshot with the following error message when she tried to access the BigBlueBall chat. Anyone have any idea what this means and how to fix it?
July 11, 2006 at 6:38 pm #147852.ClintParticipantThat means that on the security dialog that popped up, they hit “no” instead of “yes.”
July 11, 2006 at 6:42 pm #147846Jeff HesterKeymasterShe didn’t get a security pop-up (unless maybe it was some time in the past).
BTW Clint, thanks for sharing this useful link.
Ok, so is there a way to fix this after the fact?
July 12, 2006 at 3:38 am #147849DavidParticipantnot without source for that java chat client.
Jeff.. what if we could setup an AJAX chat client, one that wouldn’t require Java or Flash or anything other than a modern browser?

Using our IRC server? That would rock! :woot:
BTW, she was able to get into the chat fine by using Firefox. IE does work, but she had some security setting that was preventing it from connecting, and it wasn’t worth hassling at the moment.

I know that flash is possible, and it would be very easy, too. ICQ has a flash webchat for IRC, and maybe someone could use an SWF decompiler, and make it more.. BBBish. That doesn’t seem very likely to happen, but I think it is worth being mentioned.

Edit: an extra “the” removed…
July 14, 2006 at 1:28 am #147848Jeff HesterKeymasterDavid, sounds like .Clint has thrown down the gauntlet… are you up for the challenge?
July 14, 2006 at 2:31 am #147851SpikeMemberIf I may add my two cents in (sorry .Clint), it’s actually very possible. There have been some remarkable PHP IRC clients written, one more notably for the PSP, which includes an on-screen keyboard. So it’s very much possible, and knowing Dave, he’ll do it. 😉
July 14, 2006 at 3:37 am #147850DavidParticipantChallange Accepted. I have a lot of other work on my dev plate right now though, so it might be a while before I start.
July 14, 2006 at 3:40 am #147854.ClintParticipantYeah, PHP is not the same as JavaScript… Wait… nevermind, I just figured it out.. like using AJAX to get returned information from the PHP page.
Took me awhile, but I figured it out! 😮 :p
