problems signing in!!!

every time I try to log in w/ messenger this thing appears:
“we were unable to sing you into .net messenger service possibly because of a problem with the service or with the internet connection.
please make shure you are connected to the internet” I’m on college and in my room i have cable connection…the weird thing is that i can connect to any page in the internet but the messenger is the only thing that does it..i check the proxi thing and i dont have one,so is uncheck…..

Likely a firewall is the problem. Try disabling any firewall software you are or may be running – note: Windows XP has a built in firewall you can disable as well.

If you mean how to disable the windows xp firewall then :

Open My Network Places then in the Network Tasks sidebar choose View network connections, double click Local Area Connection then hit the Properties then go to the Advanced tab and uncheck the box next to Protect my computer and network by limiting or preventing access to the computer from the Internet

And thats it.

i cant log in to messenger either…..6.0 and windows 4.7, but for some reason i can check my hotmail at hotmail.com and also sign into my other email addresses on msn

I have the same problem with signing into 6.0. I don’t have zone alarm, what will zone alarm do?

zone alarm is a firewall and it will sometimes block certain programs from accessing the net, unless you allow zonealarm to let it. – if that makes any sense? i had it running and i couldnt sign in, but when i shut it down, i was able to sign in…

Thanks ALOT Grimm… I had the EXACT same problem… I was on it all night one night and when I rebooted it didn’t work…. I already had zonealarm but had stopped using it cause I got a router with it’s own firewall. Thanks for posting your solution!
