KeymasterThose of you running third-party add-ons may already be aware that many of them do not work well with MSN Messenger 5. Microsoft has posted the following notice on the MSN Messenger web site describing the problem:
Quote:quote:MSN has investigated reports that some third party add-in applications are causing the MSN Messenger 5 application to suffer degraded performance and varying degrees of unstable operation. In order to experience the best performance with MSN Messenger, you should uninstall third party MSN Messenger add-in applications you have installed which may be causing stability issues and report these issues to the third party application vendors.Basically Microsoft’s solution is to not use those third-party add-ons. Thanks a lot, Microsoft! 🙁

KeymasterIt’s not so dumb; it’s just a fact of life when dealing with software today. Microsoft owns and maintains MSN Messenger. As they build and enhance their Messenger software, this sometimes requires them to make changes that would effect the third-party (and usually unauthorized) add-ons.
When they have partners who are working on authorized add-ons (like the tab content or alerts), they’ll get them involved during the development process to help test and update their software before the new version comes out.
Since most of the add-ons for Messenger are unauthorized, when Microsoft released MSN Messenger 5.0, many (but not all) of the add-ons were at least partially broken, but only with THAT version. The add-ons continue to work with the older versions that they were designed for, but need to be updated to work with 5.0.
Some of the better add-ons, like Patchou’s Messenger Plus!, has already been updated to work with 5.0. The crappy ones will probably just fade away (like they should have long ago).
