ParticipantHello, someone recommended that I should joined here and that I will find an yahoo experts who might be able to help me…..I hope so. It has been 3 days now and I am very upset that I upgraded yahoo 8 that now caused me nothing but problems. Wish I had never done it…I tried to go back to my previous version yahoo 7.0 that I’ve never had problems with it. Now I can’t even do that because it showed same problems as yahoo 8!
When I upgraded, yahoo never said to uninstall first 7.0 and I thought it went smooth with no problems. I signed in and everything but then I noticed something wrong. I saw a popup that says *Verbiage:station-selection does not exist* Yahoo signed me offline and back online in few secs then does it again in 20 mins. everytime. It was very very annoying even my friends noticed something wrong.
I rebooted after installing. I clicked on plugins…nothing helped. Should I delete plugins? I don’t really need it…What do you think? What can I do????
I tried 4 times uninstalling and reinstalling……
I have DELL windows xp home edition sp2 1 GB of Ram, DSL I have Zone Alarm, Avast, Spysweeper, Winpatrol, Spywareblaster and ewido.
I hope someone can help me! I am not very smart with pc but I do alright. Something like this stumped me no one else can help me. I really appreciated any help!!! I am hoping I won’t have to go to techie’s shop!! Thanks in advance….Regards, Rose

ParticipantIt meant the plug-in page downloaded by IE got corrupted, you can verify this by clicking the Plug-ins button, if you don’t get the plug-in list in Plug-in manager window, completely exit Y!M then go to Options of IE, clean IE cache and cookies, restart Y!M.

ParticipantYes I clicked on plugins all three to start and still showed blank Even when showing, yahoo still signed me offline then online few secs every 20 mins or so. When it does that…showed disappearing from the bottom just like that screenshot I sent.
I can send instant messages with others but then it would sign me off and come back…very annoying
I tried your suggestion. Any more suggestions, please?? Would it be better if I deleted plugins or not?
Will I have to uninstall yahoo again but this time save instead of run?? I will check back later….Thanks so much! Regards, Rose

ParticipantIt’s better to close the plug-ins, each of them if you don’t need them because each plug-in keeps downloading a script from yahoo and it’s a mess when there’s an error. Also in Preferences don’t start with “show Inside Yahoo!”, no need to reinstall Yahoo Messenger.

ParticipantI find most IE problems are caused by the suite installer and not the full install.
Specially with Zone alarm monitoring .tmp files which it uses to run the suite install.
As any installation notes it’s always best to close such programs when installing other software, yahoo! messenger is no exception.
I suggest doing a complete uninstallation of your messenger and download the full install of 8.0.0701
Hopefully this will fix your issue.

ParticipantThank you…I want to make sure I understand so I would like to go back to what you said…
First of all, I already unchecked *show inside yahoo* and unchecked start yahoo automatically when I installed. That’s what I want.
I will close plugins if that will help then…you mean by using *stop*?
When I clicked on your *complete uninstallation* I saved it….does that mean I don’t need to use Add/Remove Programs?? Because I have your *complete uninstallation*? Gotta make sure I understand! Also I won’t need to use search feature making sure all leftovers of yahoo im are gone??
Whenever I install a new program, I always close all my running programs except anti-virus(Avast) and firewall(Zone Alarm). Is that ok? Sometimes I use *save* downloaded programs but I didn’t use *save* for yahoo 8.0
Yes that is true about the suite installer that was first time I noticed when I checked Zone Alarm program control. I guess I should have used *save*? I didn’t know what is the suite installer means.
Dermot and aneagle, I want to say THANK YOU!!! I will wait till I hear from you both so I know exactly what to do for sure! I needed my yahoo im because it’s my only contact with my family and friends since I am a deaf person so I depended on it. I really appreciated it very much….I will check back later…hugs, Rose 🙂
edit:PS I came back later to tell you that I close plugins….didn’t work I will be back to hear from you again.

ParticipantHi ramblinrose
The Yremover program when run will completely wipe yahoo from your pc and the add/remove program list by force as yahoo’s own uninstaller does not do this.
I suggest closing zone alarm and your anti virus and download the full install then after a reboot and Yremover has finsihed right in case it asked to reboot. Hopefully on your re-installation it will fix your issue.
After its back working, turn your zone alarm and anti virus back on.

ParticipantI followed your instructions and let me tell you…when I run yremover…I was amazed how quick it was!! Then set up yahoo 8 was also very quick. I was very pleased that there was no junks on it that I didn’t want yahoo toolbar or extras. I only want simple.
So far everything went well and working (knocking on the wood). If not, then you know I will be back here yelling HELP! lol
Dermot, I thank you from the bottom of my heart!! 🙂 hugs, Rose

ParticipantDermot, I posted it too soon…I am upset. Problems are back as before!!! What is wrong???
What do I have to do now? You think Zone Alarm might be the culprit?? I hope not. I do like ZA but what to do? Should I unistall ZA and use windows filrewall and see what happens? 🙁 Rose

If everything works, then you will know if ZoneAlarm is the cause of your troubles! So i recommend you try this. Hope it helps!

ParticipantThank you for that…I found out it wasn’t Zone Alarm after all. Then I discovered something!!! Only I don’t know how to fix it. I will ask my hubby to call our ISP.. this time I didn’t turn on Yahoo im because I got tired of it and guess what? I noticed some kinds of hiccups while I was surfing. Just like yahoo im offline and online few secs. So I am thinking something has to do with connection and I don’t know how to check it. I have DSL thru phone line. Do you think I might be right?
Even though I had yahoo im 7.0 with no problems…something happens. I don’t know how to better explain the hiccups but that’s what it looks like. I will notice more when I will have yahoo im off for now to see if I am right.
I will check back….thanks… Regards, Rose

ParticipantDoes avast have a firewall too?
or any sort of script blocking options?
as i don’t use Avast and not sure of its capibilities.
Was the messenger working ok till you turned them back on?

ParticipantThe problem is most probably related to the network quality and Yahoo side. Here is how I see the Plug-ins working:
– When Y!M starts, if the last session status has Plug-ins shown, it downloads all the scripts of each selected Plug-in listed in the last status. It uses IE to get the Plug-ins and run the scripts, so we can get same type of error as what we sometimes get while surfing the web. The Plug-ins manager list can be blank then time-out and shows the same page error as we see in IE. One of the Plug-ins may be slow to download or its script got corrupted and we see blank little window or text with wrong layout.– Yahoo has the full control on the Plug-ins, they can take a Plug-in off the service.
“Verbiage:station-selection does not exist” means part of the downloaded script is missing. Stop this Plug-in from the Plug-ins manager and start it again will force the redownload. If the problem persists, you open IE and verify if you can use IE to watch video clips, to get some music and flash animation from a website. If the IE test result is ok just once, the problem is the network quality or maybe (who knows) the techs at Yahoo is messing with the system.

ParticipantDermot, Avast does not have a firewall and I am not sure about script blocking options that I don’t see on avast. My laptop have yahoo 7.0 with Avast no problems, no hiccups. I will not upgraded for sure! I used my pc most of the time.
Yes yahoo im was working fine when I turned on Avast and Zone Alarm. Now I am not sure if that will make a difference or not. I mean, I gets nervous when I know my pc is not protected, I’d wait about 5 mins with only windows firewall. Think I should have waited little longer?
aneagle, everytime yahoo im get hiccups, it goes offline then online and all the plugins disappears. I would click on plugins to start all over and all came back. Then hiccups came I had to do all over unless I don’t bother with it…very annoying!! I had to go on an invisible so my friends won’t be calling me what’s wrong.
I appreciated a lot if you would give me links that will show if IE is working ok. I have java update 07, Adobe shockwave player, few others all updated. Is there something I might need to change settings in IE options?
Thank you for being patient with me. I appreciated it a lot! I wish yahoo would remove plugins as I don’t need them…I see there are delete (trash cans) in the plugins manager. Will that help if I delete it or not? Rose
