I MIGHT know the answer to this but I’m not sure…I can no longer get into yahoo group chats. I think the problem MIGHT be that I don’t have Windows 98SE and you can no longer d/l Jave for 98. Is Java the problem or is it something else? I can get there, its just that the page isn’t stable and it really won’t let me type in the box. I do have a Windows upgrade CD for 98 SE but is that a matter of just running it and will it automatically upgrade? Or do you think I have another problem since I can’t chat. Thanks.
(If by “group chats” you mean something like a Yahoo! group) My guess is that it has to do with the user created rooms being discontinued. That’s just a guess…but I can imagine if people are sick enough to create pedo. chat rooms they would create pedo. groups and try to chat from there. Perhaps Yahoo! has just stopped all group chat to look into the problem.
Chatrooms made through the yahoo group is working fine as of this post. Well you do need java when creating at first the group chatroom, do you have the java plug-in installed in your PC? because a friend of mine also has Windows 98 (Second Edition), and have java installed in that PC, and yahoo groups chatroom is working perfectly there.
As for the upgrade, i think its auto-run but will prompt you about upgrading.

Thanks! I found the applet online and d/l it and it seems to be working now. Then I tried to get into the BBB chat and couldn’t. So, I changed browsers from Firefox to IE and it worked. I wonder if it has been a Firefox issue. I really don’t like that browser even though its supposed to be good, so many things don’t work!

Thanks.I too am having problems getting into yahoo group chat,In my case I think it as java issue the computer freezes on loading java and it just hangs.I have uninstalled yahoo and redownloaded it changed my network connection and got the latest java same problem l am at witts end

JimWhat operating system are you using? Check out this topic about Yahoo group chat, see if that helps.
As long as you are using messenger or another chat client in YMSG mode, you don’t need to enter you chat room in internet java. You can always just enter it like any other chat rooms by entering the following in the main window.
/join *g.insertyourgroupnamehere:1
