were can i find a program to see whos looking at my profile?
January 17, 2004 at 12:17 am #51056DavidParticipantPlease make use of the Search Feature in the future.
January 17, 2004 at 12:18 am #51055Grim ReaperMemberYou have to get a some type of subprofile. Or there is a site that has a thing called IMChaos that puts a link in your profile and when people click on it it keeps track of what screen name clicked on it.
*edit*
And like David said, please use the search feature. This question was posted a couple of weeks ago.
January 27, 2004 at 11:08 pm #51057WonderWmnMemberLet me extend on SCPGIRL39’s question. I know that you can’t just “see” who looks at your AIM profile without clicking on a link such as a SubProfile or an IMChaos type of thing, but can you tell me why?
The best explanation that I’ve gotten is, “Well, if you could, then there would be so much porn/spam throughout AIM that it wouldn’t even be worth using.” 😮 What does that mean???
Can anyone clear this up for me?? I’m curious.
Thanks!

I don’t really think that is a good explanation of it. Being able to see who viewed your profile would in no way increase spam. The reason it currently can’t be done, is the way that AIM handles profiles, they only allow for simple HTML.. and don’t allow anything that could be used as tracking. AOL could add this to it, or even just a hardcoded list as a way of tracking for all users to use (I dont know why they havent). I believe the reason that the profiles don’t allow for things such as Javascript, meta tags, php, asp… or whatever you could use on the web is security. If they did allow for this then viruses could be spread very easilly just by the viewing profiles (even easier then clicking the links that give you them..as the ones are spreading now).
AOL made the profiles to be very simple, to what (I believe) to be the most secure way they could do it.Now this is just my speculation here… but I think that AOL believes that only simple html is enough to accomplish what you would do with a profile…that is create a profile to provide a little bit of information about you…which you shouldn’t need to know who is viewing it.
