There are so many of them…. which one could somebody recommend that is very flexible, simple, and easy to learn?
Maybe somebody could also just tell me which is easiest to learn, and then tell me which is the most flexible… but preferrably a language with both of those qualities. I don’t need anything real professional either, but somethin cool. I also would appreciate it if it had a function that could make it into an independant EXE program that I don’t need to run in the language program. Thanks.
July 28, 2004 at 5:09 am #41068DavidParticipantYou want Microsoft Visual Basic, I like version 6.0, but you could go with .NET too.
VB is extremely flexible and easy to learn, if you want to learn to develop applications on Windows OS, you want to start with VB.
The most useful site for VB or any programming languages http://www.pscode.com .
Have fun. 🙂
July 28, 2004 at 6:50 am #41074HasanMemberI suggest you to start learning Visual BASIC.NET
Install it in your system.
Buy yourself a book.Thats it.
July 28, 2004 at 7:02 am #41067detn8rParticipantVB easy to learn…. heh! I’ve been at programming for 2 years, and it’s definitly a PITA if it ‘isn’t your thing’ 😉
July 28, 2004 at 1:11 pm #41070MartinBradleyMemberYeah Visual Basic is good. I’ve been using it for around 6 months, whilst working through a book at the same time, and I do feel quite confident using it, after what feels like a relatively short period of time.
If you want to buy a book, you could always search Amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk) for it, or go out there and buy one yourself. I think working through a book too definately speeds up your learning process. You have to be prepared to be absolutely meticulous though.
July 28, 2004 at 5:32 pm #41076AwesomeSauceParticipantWow… based on your guys’s comments, this sounds really cool. Where can I get 6.0, and will it work with win. XP? and can it make a code into a EXE. program?
July 28, 2004 at 10:46 pm #41071MartinBradleyMemberYou can buy Visual Basic 6.0 either off the Internet, or any decent computer software store. Yes, it is compatible with Windows XP, however, VB 6.0 does not come at a cheap price. I’m not 100% sure how much it is, but its not the cheapest. I heard it cost my college teacher £75 to purchase it. Not sure how accurate that is, but thats what he told me.
Also, yes, VB 6.0 will allow you to make the code into a .EXE program.
July 28, 2004 at 11:18 pm #41077AwesomeSauceParticipantI found the .NET version on Amazon.com. Is 6.0 more expensive than that? I really wanna try this.
It says it takes up 900MB on the system drive! [:o]
July 29, 2004 at 1:00 am #41069DavidParticipant.NET is bloated and slow IMO, I can’t stand it. v6 should be cheaper, but I can’t find it online easily, maybe just check at your local Staples of OfficeMax.
July 29, 2004 at 1:13 am #41073TigerbladeParticipantmy “Microsoft Visual Studio” folder is 282MB, but its very likely that there’s also some files being stored elsewhere like in my ‘Documents and Settings’, I just dont know and frankly dont care to go look for them right now
July 29, 2004 at 1:30 am #41072MartinBradleyMemberI had the .NET version, with everything installed, all components and everything, it took up 1.8GB. So yes, very bloated.
July 29, 2004 at 2:26 am #41075UnSaKreDMemberMy two cents,
I have used visual basic for almost 6 years now.
Starting with vb 3.0 all the way up to the new .NET
If your looking for a starter programming language to use, go w/ Visual Basic 6.0
.Net is a heap load different.
If you want more power and over all use, I say learn C/C++
But if you just want to make quick apps, vb 6 is the way to go.
