There will be two versions of the PS3: one sporting a 20 gigabyte hard drive for $499 and another with a 60 gigabyte drive for $100 more. Officials said they would have 4 million units ready by the end of 2006 and another 6 million by March 31, 2007.
Ripoff. ‘Nuff said.
May 9, 2006 at 12:09 pm #144157Jeff HesterKeymasterHeh they also copied nintendo’s controller.
May 9, 2006 at 12:57 pm #144158detn8rParticipantMay I be stupid for a day, and ask why it needs a hdd?
May 9, 2006 at 9:23 pm #144159Hurricane22491MemberThey don’t want to be outdone by Microsoft. It’ll probably get some use with online games and downloads though.
$500 is more than I want to pay for a game system, and $600 is definitely too much. I’ll wait a year or two and see where the price is at then.

I’m also glad they trashed the batarang controller.
The press conference yesterday was pretty lame too… kind of like last years, where they mostly just showed pre-rendered game trailers, trying to impress people with graphics.
Plus, they’re doing what Microsoft did: confusing people with two different packages (Both ridiculously expensive). Will I be getting the PS3? Most likely not.
May 10, 2006 at 12:15 am #144166MrEggsaladParticipantMy god…not for this much! Heck, not only this, but you need an HD TV as well. Maybe I’m just the odd guy out, but I don’t have an HD TV, so that would be like $2000+ and $500. Crazy. Who would buy for that much?
May 10, 2006 at 5:02 am #144161AwesomeSauceParticipantI kind of worry about it this way: The general public will buy PS3 just because it has HD (and tilt-sensitive controllers), even though they don’t know what HD is, and they can’t use it anyway because they don’t own an HDTV. Then they will see the Wii and it’s control system without really studying up on it, and say “Bah! My PS3 has that and HD. Why would I want to buy a cheap japanese knockoff?” 😛
May 10, 2006 at 11:00 am #144164DrBroccoliParticipantIt’s true, it’s all about marketing, and Sony has more resources to do just that. I am sure we’ll get to the point where people will think Wii stole the tilt/active control motion from PS3, even though PS3’s is barely movable, compared to Wiis.
I know where I stand, and heck revolutionary features for under $200, I am sold. Thank you Nintendo.
May 10, 2006 at 1:45 pm #144168AstrocatParticipantWell im glad to say £300 and ill have a PS3. Thats because im over here in the Uk and can get an american One imported plus the games will be cheaper to. Already got the electrical adpapter so bring it on:woot:
May 10, 2006 at 2:34 pm #144165princeGParticipantDoing the currency exchange thing, that’s 392 euro for me.. Still a lot, nope, won’t even think about it.
May 10, 2006 at 8:21 pm #144167MrEggsaladParticipantI actually don’t think I will buy any. I mean, I barely play my PS2 as it is, and I only really use my PSP for music. Plus, for the Xbox 360 and PS3, I would have to 1) Get and HDTV then 2) Get $500 – $600. The Wii looks cool and all, but who knows.
May 11, 2006 at 12:25 am #144163SpikeMemberThe PS3 will only be supported by HDTV’s? Where did you all hear that? I heard it was going to be in 780p resolution, not the expected 1080p, and compatable everywhere.
By the way, the PSP and PS3 will be integratable fully, and since I own a PSP, I’ll probably just get one for my birthday. I mean, it’s Sony, everyone can’t hate them. And the hell if I’m going to wave a freakin’ TV remote at a console to play games.

Spike wrote:And the hell if I’m going to wave a freakin’ TV remote at a console to play games.Actually, from what I know, two dime-sized sensors placed on both sides of the TV are what picks up the controller’s direction it’s pointing at. Makes much more sense with first-person shooters.
May 12, 2006 at 2:29 pm #144169Tea GrannyMemberOuch! That works out to $760.00 Canadian (including tax) for the more expensive one. I see a 360 in my future.
