January 1, 2007 at 8:52 pm #156380SpikeMemberLet me walk you through the roles here at BigBlueBall, I think you’ll learn a lot. 🙂
Premiere Member – Someone who is either a retired staff member or who has paid to become a Premiere Member. The cost is $12 per year, and you can check out the benefits and payment options on this page (must be logged in).
Mentor – A mentor is someone who, well, mentors other people here on the forums. They’re the bridge between the moderators of the forums and the users, because, while we call them Staff Members here at BBB (and they are), they don’t have any moderating power. They were given their positions because we felt that they were helping people out a lot.
Advisor – An Advisor is a staff member who (you guessed it) advises other people on certain things. They’re one step up from Mentors in that they have forum moderaiting capabilities, so if you have a forum-related issue, you can talk to an advisor of that particular section. They’re also just as helpful as Mentors, so feel free to come to them with questions, as well.
Team Leader – A Team Leader is someone who leads one of our main sections here at BBB. Our AIM and Computer Support Team Leader is David, our Community Center Team Leader is Oreo, our Yahoo! Team Leader is hatedjealousy and our Other IM Team Leader is Spike (me!). At the moment, we don’t have an MSN Team Leader, so if you need to, you can talk to our Administrator, Jeff who has taken over for the MSN Section temporarily. Team Leaders are the people who manage that particular section, including any staff positions and changes to that section. These people also have global moderating capabilities, so if you have a bigger forum issue, you can talk to one of them.
Administrator – We’ve only got one, and his name is Jeff. He manages the entire site and everything about it, including any staff changes.
So, to answer your question, just post and help out in the section you think you’d be best at advising, and if we think you’ve got what it takes, we’ll ask you to become staff. Basically, it’s one of those don’t call us, we’ll call you! things. 🙂
January 1, 2007 at 8:52 pm #156385StigmataMemberContinue helping people, then if a position is available and the staff believe you are a worthy candidate they will contact you.
Good luck, and just give real help as much as possible

January 4, 2007 at 6:30 am #156381SpikeMemberAll of our staff are hired in the manner in which I described above. They did not ask to be on staff, they were asked by someone else. This isn’t to say that you should get your hopes down, just keep trying. And Private Messaging Jeff and/or the (nonexistant) MSN Team leader or any of the other staff here will not help, it will only hurt the situation.
January 4, 2007 at 11:07 am #156386Eagle_KiwiMemberTkey – I’d suggest it’s pretty much the same as “finding a grirlfriend” (or boyfriend) !
The harder you TRY, the worse your chances.
But when/if you STOP “trying”, just relax and do things simply to help others rather than in order to get a reward for yourself, then rewards will probably come your way. 🙂(And I for one give plenty of “reputation” around here, where I feel it’s merited, but don’t think I’d ever give it to someone who so blatantly ASKS for it. That’s just not the point.)

January 4, 2007 at 9:23 pm #156383sarahtownyMemberI have to agree with Eagle on this (does not happen often lol!:p ) but when I was asked to be on the staff it was a complete surprise! So when it did happen yes it was a nice surprise.
So my advice is just lay back enjoy the bbb ride and if you get asked, then fantastic! Till then just be yourself help out and just be active.
As with any member all input is very much appreciated. But if your asking if a new member can be added on staff just by asking.. then the answer is no.
Our staff here at bbb earn the position that is why they are so good at what they do:)

The forums are only as active as you, the member, decide to make them. 😉

Off topic yes, but that sounds like a variation of a quote our science teacher gave us. “You are only as happy as you choose to be.” :p
