I have a webcam successfully set up on WLM beta, but I’m having an issue… when I untick the box so that WLM shouldn’t allow others to know that I have a webcam, it still shows that I do. I had this issue on the WLM 8X too. It happens on all passports I use, so there is just no privacy! Anyone have an idea how to correct this?

Since I run an add-on that allows multiple instances of WLM, I tried it myself with my other login. Checking the box, and clickly APPLY does indeed remove or add the icon under the picture even though you yourself can always still see it under your own display picture. You might try asking a contact if it’s really there or not just to be sure.
And remember, no one can view your cam unless you accept a request to allow them.
The other thing you can do is just unplug the cam. It will retain all your settings (unless you go change them under Tools/Audio & Video Setup) so you can just plug it in when/if you want to use it and not have the hassle of setting it up again. That way with no cam connected, the DEFINITELY won’t see it.

January 26, 2008 at 8:43 pm #166169twistedmetalMemberI’ve tried everything. Even when I unplug the camera people still send me an invitation to send.
Would reinstalling WLM reset all the settings?

I did look around and Messenger Discovery says you have the ability to block application invites. I don’t know if that includes webcam or not – and I personally have not used this add-on. Perhaps if anyone else does they can weigh in on whether that will help or not.
I did look at Plus! (since I DO use it) and didn’t see anything that looked like it would help.
I doubt reinstalling would be of any help whatsoever in all this. It’s more likely a people issue than a program one.
I wish I had a better answer for you. I’m surprised the icon is not disappearing when you either unplug the cam or untick the box. That could be a beta issue, but as I said YOU will always see the icon if a cam is installed, even if your contacts can’t. If you have a way to log in under 2 passports (even on 2 different machines) where you can test it directly it may help in letting you know if your contacts are simply sending invites regardless of what they see.
Good luck…If I can be of any help at all please let me know.
