Hi, this is my first post 😉
I have a question. For subprofiles and other links that stay inside aim profiles, when some are clicked they check to make sure the referral was from the aim profile. In other words, it checks to make sure you didnt copy / paste the link into your web browser. Why would you want to do this? Well, first of all, it usually logs who you are, using the %n tag in the url. Secondly, if you wanted some of the sourcecode you wouldn’t be able to retreive it from an aim profile window.
So basically, I would like to know what the url is of an aim profile link. Is it true that it is actually your own i.p. address? I have this feeling because i know you can edit your aim profile somewhere in the application data folder (profile.html or whatever).
If anyone knows the referral url, or any help on this, i’d appreciate it. Thanks!
The HTTP_REFERRER value will be empty, you will have to look at the User-Agent of the browser. Only the biggest geeks will be able to bet around it, but you will lock out third party IM clients like Trillian and GAIM.
Its very very easy to flood guestbooks, polls, or other stuff through the browser. So if it checks to make sure that yoru in aim, then it will cut down on like porn bots and crap like that.
Yeah, i’m not going to go out of my way to spoof something browser related, just to access a link in an aim profile. Thanks for letting me know how to do it though.
