Seems more and more people are switching over to MSN, sometimes I don’t blame them tho I swear by ICQ myself.
One thing that always really bothered me about Icq, why can’t I just press on “enter” to send messages? Or at least have the option to do so. Is there a special reason for this?
November 17, 2002 at 2:53 pm #66193rustedtightMemberICQ has a bright future, why would you think otherwise?
As I see it…….. when you have 90+% of the operating sytems for computers and your IM is part of that OS of course it would ‘seem’ that users are changing over to that IM. Actually its encourageing that there is so many non lazy users willing to get off their butts and look at alternative IM’s, AOL give AIM away with their “services”, while ICQ Yahoo etc. live by their reputations in providing a working alternative. Trillian, jabber etc. offer interoperability with those providers.
ICQ’s future? quite solid I believe.;)November 18, 2002 at 3:09 am #66196MistahManParticipantThe reason I think so, is precisely because Msn is bundled with Microsoft’s OS. I’ve noticed a chain reaction in terms of people dumping ICQ in favor of what friends and family are more commonly using. So it just got me wondering. It’s easier to use and backed by Microsofts campaigning. It’s not hard to see a future where more than half of the messaging populace will be comprised of MSN users.
Don’t get me wrong tho, ICQ for life.

You can push the control button and enter at the same time and it will send your message without having to stop and touch the mouse.ICQ for me is the best too!
November 19, 2002 at 7:32 am #66195MistahManParticipantOh yeah I knew about that trick. I actually use the “tab” plus “enter” myself but I still don’t get what the point is not to make it simply “enter”. It’s odd.

I still think that ICQ is a superior IM client and a lot more reliable than MSNM! It has features, and has had features for several years now than MSNM doesn’t include yet! Offline messages, message history, send contacts, invisible mode (show offline sucks comp. to it!) to mention a few.March 8, 2003 at 2:01 pm #66198DukieMemberPersonally i think ICQ is slowly going further and further down hill all the time.
There is 0 support available for any issues you have.
Except for the FAQ of questions that no one ever asks or need’s to know the answers too. There are so many different builds and versions that still work its not funny.
I mean hell even old 98 version’s still work. They need to start weeding out some of these older versions IMO because allot of them allowed IP viewing and there are numerous other security bugs in older versions.
I think killing older versions would be good for securityAlso id like to see them structure there web site so it isnt just a maze of links to the same page, and as for their support pages well i dont even know why they bother i tried today looking for a something about blank messages and all i found where about 200 posts on there support forums with one word spam.
Ive allways loved ICQ and still prefer it over every other IM but recently ive started to shy away from it the full builds are to bulky and slow, but the new ICQ Lite is almost close to the perfect icq all it needs now is chat support.
I think ICQ will be around for ever but unless they start getting there act together i can see it loosing allot of user’s to All in One clients and other IM’s.
