I use iTunes and also have Quicktime 7 installed on my PC. The problem is that anytime I want to play a movie file, Quicktime plays it instead of Windows Media Player. I just don’t like how Quicktime goes about playing movie files, and I’ve unchecked all movie files that could possibly associated with it, but still the problem remains. Is there any way to make Windows Media Player my default for viewing movie files (mpeg, mpg, etc.), or will I just have to live with this?

I suggest DivX
I have DivX, WMP, Real Player(only plays dvds on my computer doesn’t work), and Quick Time. I have gone in and done everthing to get all these MPs to not be the default. I have gone into Windows and made WMP my default in that place and gay QuickTime loads after like 1 minute and plays everything. Quicktime you can’t really do anything it is a piece of crap somethings require.
Try going to “Add or Remove Programs”, click on the “Set Program Access and Defaults” button and go on from there.
If I recall correctly, right clicking a file and then going “open with -> specific media player” only does it once. Try doing the same thing, except go to “Choose Program…”
Then choose Windows Media Player and make sure to tick the checkbox at the bottom that says “always use…”
I think the simple solution you all may be overlooking is that you need to re-login or reboot your machine for many of these to take effect. This is because many of these programs stay “running” when you “close” them. Reboot your machine and see where you are at.
you may also want to check to see if those other programs are set to load up when you start your computer. quicktime and realplayer seem to think that because you used them once, you must want them to run every time you start. on XP, you can do Start > Run > msconfig , then go to the startup tab and deselect those programs so they dont come up all the time.
