Every once a while I get these kind of messages from the same 1 or 2 contacts:
Ever since Dylan and I seen those Acai pills on Cnn and Oprah we have been taking them and losing so much weight so fast with no diet or excercise , we are living proof that it works like magic and they are only five dollars now to try from http://URL
I am done trying all the different fat burner pills out there. I finally found one pill that forces your body to drop a lot of weight very quickly. Its called Acai, costs just 5 dolars and I always order from http://URL
How do I stop receiving these?
Did my contact get infected by a worm/virus ?

As for stopping the spam – if it’s from their machines they need to clean off the malware. Unless you want to block the contacts completely and get no incoming messages from them, the only way to stop it will be to correct the root problem that’s causing it. Whatever you do, don’t click on the links in the spam.
I’d let them know you are getting the messages and suggest a scan with Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware. These are both free programs and if your contacts have any malware infections, it should help take care of them.

You can do this from the WLM main menu under Tools/Options/File Transfer. Simply plug in the path for your Anti-Virus executable and any files will be scanned upon receipt.
I wasn’t thinking once and clicked a photo transfer from a contact and if I hadn’t had scanning enabled I’d have been in a world of trouble. It’s worth a minute or two to set that up.

I don’t think that it’s spreading by file transfer — as in the screencap below, this contact of mine is especially vigilant when it comes to just that. Every time I attempt to send her something, she makes sure she asks me if I sent it before accepting it.
I’m not sure if this is the same worm/bot that grabs people’s passwords and logs in and sends messages to everyone on their list..
March 29, 2009 at 9:00 pm #173690twistedmetalMemberI’m starting to get quite a few of these messages too, and they are damn annoying!
March 29, 2009 at 9:22 pm #173692Doris KenneyParticipantThe problem is usually the contact has accepted a file transfer or clicked a link that’s bad. Then their machine starts sending these messages.
If you are getting them from one particular contact, I’d certainly let that contact know they might want to scan for malware on their machine, and whatever you do – don’t click on the link in the msg.
