KeymasterUh-oh…be careful. The registry is a sort of database that Windows keeps of all your system and application settings. Usually when you install a new program, or change the settings of a program, those settings are stored in the registry. You can edit the registry manually (Start > Run > regedit), but if you mistakenly change the wrong setting, you could cause serious problems with your computer, even making it so that the operating system won’t boot!
If you want a thorough introduction and explanation of the Windows Registry, check out the Windows Registry Guide. They have detailed explanations of what the registry is, the structure, how to edit it and more.

MemberAs you are posting in the AIM forum, im assuming you want to edit the AIM registry. Which is at HKEY_CURRENT_USER/software/America Online/AOL Instant Messenger
I have found that just by editing these entries, you cant really mess up your computer (not saying it isnt possible) the only real threat is making AIM not work where you have to reinstall it again.November 27, 2002 at 3:28 pm #99651rustedtight

There are registry editors available n one built into windows (regedit), use it .. look but dont touch… learn that here is the heart of software operations for windoze n one silly mistake will destroy your chance of using that software. As noted above.. you cant mess up your computer… (it IS possible)… but you sure as hell will kill an application (software program).
Look but dont touch.
If you think you can tweak something….. your wrong.
If your following a ‘fix’ published on da web, ensure the source is reliable, print out the instructions n double check everything.
You CAN kill a perfectly good working computer from there. -
