I didn’t know exactly where to post this.
I’ve been playing around with customizing my desktop and I can’t figure out how to remove the recycle bin off the screen.

check this entry on TweakXP.com for instructions — it has instructions for both XP Home and XP Pro.
August 19, 2006 at 5:39 pm #150939SpikeMemberAh, I see. My bad, I thought it would be in there.
Bshink, why do you want it removed, anyway? You do know that the recycle bin on the desktop is the only way to empty the recycle bin, that is, unless you just shut off the recycle bin completely.
August 19, 2006 at 6:09 pm #150936TigerbladeParticipantYou can empty the recycle bin via your Windows Explorer. Start > Run > explorer.scf
I use Windows Explorer instead of “My Computer” just because it makes for easier navigation. And personally — I despise desktop icons. I only rarely use them, and even then only for the occasional file that i don’t want to lose track of temporarily. Like a text file i’m editing quickly, then disposing of… etc. The one exception that I allow is the RB. just so i can quickly see when i’ve got it loaded up with stuff.
August 19, 2006 at 6:43 pm #150943darkeyes912MemberYou can also put the recycle bin in the start menu or quick launch… I prefer quick launch, since I tend to empty my recycle bin frequently and don’t like going to the desktop to do so.
August 19, 2006 at 7:54 pm #150942BShink21MemberThanks for the insight guys.
Spike, I’m removing it because I use a mac dock program and I removed all icons except that one.
August 20, 2006 at 1:10 am #150940SpikeMemberBshink: Much easier way of removing icons is to right-click Desktop > Arrange Icons By > and untick “Show Desktop Icons”. This way you can still use your desktop like a desktop but they don’t show up. (I had a mac dock program, too)
September 3, 2006 at 6:41 am #150944shergillMemberYou can remove the recycle bin simply by this procedure
1.Right-click Desktop > Properties > Desktop (tab) > Customize Desktop > un-tick Recycle Bin.
You can enable and disable the recycyle bin using registry twaek and after disabling the recycle bin the file you are going to delete is directly to put out off the computer
you can do it with a registry editing as:For those confidant enough that you will never need a deleted file or folder, this tweak will disable the Recycle Bin and permanently delete items with no chance of recovery.
[Start] [Run] [Regedit]
Registry Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerBitBucket
Modify/Create the Value Data Type(s) and Value Name(s) as detailed below.
Data Type: DWORD // Value Name: NukeOnDelete
Setting for Value Data: [0 = Use Recycle Bin / 1 = Permanently Delete]
Exit Registry and RebootHope it will make you happy

1.Right-click Desktop > Properties > Desktop (tab) > Customize Desktop > un-tick Recycle Bin.no, that doesn’t work. If you scroll up and read Spike’s reply (the second post in this topic), you’ll notice he suggested the same thing. The Recycle Bin is not listed in the Customize Desktop dialog box, so you cannot un-tick it.
And I highly recommend NOT hacking the registry to remove recycle bin functionality. even if you think you’ll never need a deleted file… you might. it’s a VERY risky thing to attempt, so use at your own caution.
September 6, 2006 at 3:39 pm #150945shergillMemberIf you does not want to remove the recycle bin fucntionality and only wanna remove the recycle bin icon from desktop..then u have to take a look at this http://www.petri.co.il/delete_recycle_bin_icon_from_the_desktop_in_xp_2003.htm also if you want to rename the recycle bin and add the delete options to the recycle bin(there is registry patch u have to download) then look at this http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article05-013
WARNING:As always, before making changes to your registry you should always make sure you have a valid backup. In cases where you’re supposed to delete or modify keys or values from the registry it is possible to first export that key or value(s) to a .REG file before performing the changes.
Hope this will make all of u happy…But as tiger said..take care when u working with registry…
September 6, 2006 at 7:26 pm #150941DrBroccoliParticipantWhy hack the registry?
