The biggest reason people don’t search is because it takes FOREVER. I have high-speed COX, and (I just tested now) it took 23 seconds for the search to load up. My idea is to replace the main search place with the this: [url=http://www.google.com/custom?domains=BigBlueBall.com+&q=&sa=Search&sitesearch=BigBlueBall.com+&client=pub-6211947931108591&forid=1&ie=ISO-8859-1&oe=ISO-8859-1&cof=GALT%3A%23008000%3BGL%3A1%3BDIV%3A%23336699%3BVLC%3A663399%3BAH%3Acenter%3BBGC%3AFFFFFF%3BLBGC%3AFFFFFF%3BALC%3A0000FF%3BLC%3A0000FF%3BT%3A000000%3BGFNT%3A0000FF%3BGIMP%3A0000FF%3BLH%3A50%3BLW%3A209%3BL%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.bigblueball.com%2Fimages%2Flogos%2Fbbb-logo-209×50.gif%3BS%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.bigblueball.com%2Fdefault.asp%3BFORID%3A1%3B&hl=en
I kind of have to go, but, it’s just an idea. I’d say more but I have to leaveNovember 23, 2004 at 2:08 am #105737Someguy03MemberWe already have it available:
Also note that at the bottom of the forums, theres a spot to search bigblueball with google.
November 23, 2004 at 3:01 am #105735Jeff HesterKeymasterYeah, the Google search at the bottom of each page is much faster, and also looks outside of the forums, including our IM Centers and news database. Definitely check that out.
If you are searching for a specific thing in the forum, you’ll get faster results by restricting the search to a specific forum (MSN, Yahoo, AIM, etc.) rather than searching ALL forums.
November 23, 2004 at 3:11 am #105739camsterMemberyes, but I thought that, for the newbies, the google one was a much faster and reliable source to be the default search tool. I actually got the idea from looking at the thing at the bottom. I now use that to search the forums instead.
November 23, 2004 at 3:30 am #105736detn8rParticipantBah… teh noobs can wait 30 seconds.. heh. Seriously though, it’s not the end of the world. It’s the price you have to pay for a large forum, with large content.
November 23, 2004 at 11:08 am #105738MartinBradleyMemberYeah, I for one don’t mind waiting for the search to complete. I usually have something else to be getting on with anyway.
