I’ve been playing resident evil since I got my hands on a copy of Remake for the cube. After I strolled into the first room in the RE mansion, and a zombie there frightened me so bad I dropped the controller – I was hooked. I now have duplicate copies of all the RE games for the cube, and three copies of RE4 for the PS2. I can’t get enough! The next game RE5 won’t be coming out soon enough for my liking!

If you really are a granny then WOW you are some granny!
April 2, 2006 at 5:02 pm #141586AwesomeSauceParticipantWow. It’s funny that this topic was started because I just got my hands on Resident Evil 4 (for Gamecube) last Thursday. I’ve been wanting it for a loong time now, and even though it was released more than a year ago I finally have it. Resident evil games are hard to get for me because I am underage. 😮 Anyway, it is a fantastic game, and the graphics are absolutely beautiful. The PS2 version has a couple of more features but the Gamecube version has better graphics, particularly with more trees and stuff outside and lighting effects. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if it is the least scariest version in the series. It DOES, however, have tons more action. But again, not extremely scary as I was hoping. I absolutely love games that scare the crap out of me… like Doom 3. However, some of the scariest moments in RE4 are when you just know that something is about to happen when it is totally quiet at the moment.
The Resident Evil Remake for the gamecube, which is older than RE4, is supposedly far more scarier than RE4. I’ve never played it before, but if I could get another resident evil game, the GC remake would definetely be it.
I’m really jealous of you, Tea Granny. Do you wanna sell one of your duplicates to me? :p
April 2, 2006 at 9:15 pm #141591Tea GrannyMemberNot quite a granny, miami guy. I’m 45 so I suppose it isn’t far off! I think it was the scare :woot: that kept me picking up my controller again, and again….!
Well, awesome sauce, you are very brave if you are underage. I can’t get my son to play. He prefers Tony Hawk, Pokemon, and the like. You are correct. RE4 is not as scary as the others. It is a common complaint amongst us RE fans. Capcom replaced the scare factor with an action factor. Mind you, there are some creatures in RE4 that frighten me – even at my advanced age. If you haven’t played it all the way through, you will find very frightening things ahead. Most of my duplicates are unopened. I bought them for their unique packaging. One is the premium edition RE4 for the PS2 – it comes in a metal tin. If you do get more RE games for the cube, you should consider RE zero. The graphics equal remake, and the character swapping is really unique. I hope you get as much out of RE4 as I did. You should definitely put the effort in to unlock the hand cannon – serious fire power :D!
April 3, 2006 at 12:34 am #141587AwesomeSauceParticipantI was reading the Resident Evil Review on IGN.com, and it talked about how the visuals were made for the remake. They utilize the art of combining real photographs and pictures with other animated game graphics, as they did in the older versions. But in the Resident Evil Remake they’ve used much more higher resolution images combined with animated lighting and particle effects and other graphics to make the whole game stunningly photorealistic! You’ve probably already noticed that, but I think it is SO cool. 😀 Just watching their low-resolution videos shocked me; now I gotta see what they look like running in real-time on my TV screen.
Edit: By the way, When I mean “underage” I mean Resident Evil games are M-rated and most stores do not sell M-rated games to people under 17 or 18 years old. I am not quite that old yet.
April 3, 2006 at 9:43 am #141590Tea GrannyMemberToo be honest, I didn’t know how they made those stunning visuals. Thank you for that info :). The earlier RE games won awards for their visuals – no surprise. (RE4 cleaned up the awards this past year). The earlier games are really pleasing to the eye, and I have spent hours walking around in the game just looking at things. As for your age, I’m pretty sure an adult had to get the game for you. Which would mean you were either very close to that age, or mature enough to play it. I didn’t think you really young! The way you write shows maturity. I know people who have let eleven year olds play. I don’t agree with that. No one is mature enough at eleven to see that. I have no doubt you will enjoy the games. The only game in that series of RE games that isn’t so good is CVX. It was made by a different team of programers, and they kinda dropped the ball.:(
April 26, 2006 at 9:38 pm #141588AwesomeSauceParticipantWell, guess what? 🙂
Tea Granny, you’ve been telling me about how much hard work it takes to unlock the hand cannon and the other stuff, and about how long the mercinaries is. But like I said I just finished the main game a couple of weeks ago. When I went to start a new game, I selected my completed game file, and when I was buying new stuff, I had the option to get a hand cannon, along with other things like the infinite rocket launcher and that stuff. But I didn’t even do anything to unlock those. All I did was just finish the main game (I never started Assignment Ada or The Mercinaries). However, when I DID start The Mercinaries Later, I could already pick between all of the characters to play.. as opposed to what my friends told me, you had to unlock the characters.
Now you’re probably wondering “What?!?! How did you just automatically unlock everything without doing anything?”
Well, I remember back in December when I bought my Gamecube. A few days after that, I went to buy a memory card. I decided to buy a MadCatz Memory Card because MadCatz memory cards are cheaper than the Nintendo ones and they give you more space for less money. I remember on the package it said something like “2 Free Gifts included on card!”. When I looked at the contents of the memory card on my gamecube, there were two things: A Donkey Konga file, and a Resident Evil 4 File.
Now I finally realize what that RE4 file did for me. It already unlocked everything for me! So IN YOUR FACE! 😉 Just joking, I don’t mean to brag… but wow, I am glad I bought that special memory card. Too bad the unlockable items weren’t there even earlier when I first started out.

Pro mode, or anything for that matter. It’s their way of making you work for some of it anyway. I don’t blame you for taking the easy way out. Imagine how embarassing it would be for an older woman to beat a younger persons game scores.;) Hey, I couldn’t resist that one! I too, got a copy of the hand cannon then proceeded to unlock it! By the time I owned the weapon I was already sick of playing the game with it. Now I’m working on a mostly knife type of scenario. My case is so full of stuff I have to leave half of the area’s pick ups untouched. It’s too much of a pain back tracking to and from a merchant to sell items so I can go back and pick up the one’s I left. Strange, but it really bothers me to leave things behind!

Anyway, just because I have a lot of the unlockables doesn’t mean I’m going to stop playing. 🙂 Woah, no. I’m playing the whole thing through again, with funner weapons, and I still have Assignment Ada (which is extremely difficult, but you probably already knew that) I also think the Mercinaries is a great addition. It’s cool just to be able to fight whenever you want.
April 27, 2006 at 5:23 am #141593Tea GrannyMemberAssignment Ada has a few tricks that make it much easier. There is one in particular to use on the final battle which I use because I find battling that guy gives me no end of grief!
I would have liked to use the characters from merc’s to play through the main mission. Hunk’s neckbreaker is a riot!
