So I saw this movie yesterday at the theater. I must say the storyline itself with the family it follows is pretty impossible. Not to ruin the movie for anyone but come on…. driving a limo under a falling bridge, managing to escape from falling into the opening earth as everyone else, and so forth is not very believable. Although I understand without this they’d have no storyline to follow as well that would keep us watching.
Other than that must say I’m disappointed to know that I’m not on the “want to keep alive list” (ie: scientist or any other important person) and I don’t have 1 billion euro that would guarantee me a slot of survival so throughout the movie I was thinking if this really happened – I’m doomed!
It’s not a bad movie though and that’s all I’ll say for now.
November 16, 2009 at 2:40 pm #176223PhilipModeratorThanks for the heads-up, Nessa. I suppose it’s not only this movie that the hero can keep surviving while others are perishing all around him. The CGI effects are wonderful though, as I’ve seen in the movie trailer. I will be watching this movie soon.
November 18, 2009 at 1:51 am #176222YahooliganMemberHey, it’s a movie… of course you’ve gotta suspend your belief. What’s scary is that there really are people who think the world is gonna end in 2012. Weird.
Anyhow, the CGI in the trailers looks fun, but I’m not sure that’s enough to get me to plop down 12 bucks to see it in the theater. Maybe I’ll wait til it comes out on DVD. Hopefully they release it before 2012… it would be a total bummer to miss it! 😉

Weird.I have met a few people who talk about 2012 being the end of the world. And for a split second…I thought to myself: maybe? But, I don’t think it is…What I do think will happen is a shift in world culture, or attitudes or beliefs of people will begin to change.

Also I know it’s a movie but doesn’t stop the comparison of what if it really happened.
As for my opinion of that really happening – Not quite buying it.

December 21, 2012, (12-21-2012) is supposedly the end of the world predicted by Nostradamus, the Mayan calendar, and other sources. However, many misinterpret this to mean the end of the world literally. Rather, it is the end of the world as we know it and the beginning of a whole new way of being, a whole new culture, and a whole new path for humanity. Only the old ways of doing things are ending, not the world itself. Earth is a sentient and living being, and it cannot be destroyed. It could cleanse and recover from anything humanity would do it, and that might be what is happening right now, maybe not. It could just be a cycle, for the Earth has historically rearranged itself a little bit every 10,000 years, Noah’s flood being the latest event, and Atlantis sinking before that while other continents rose. Celestial events can be rough rides sometimes and supposedly a celestial event that is part of the cycles on Earth is about to occur.
Above information and more from this website.
Everyone will have their own ideas and beliefs of “what will happen”…some will think nothing will, others will think it will be the end of the world, and some will think something will happen, but not the end of the world.
November 21, 2009 at 12:38 am #176218NessaParticipantI just have a feeling that it will be like the 1999 going on 2000 thing when people went crazy buying so many supplies ie: water, generators, extra food, etc. – all in preparation for whatever they believe will happen.

Many people will become consumed by fear, and choose to live in fear about 2012. This fear will consume them the closer it gets to the date, and they will choose to respond in fear. Therefore, many people will indeed gorge supplies for themselves thinking it truly is “the end”, or something of the sort.
But I believe that we shouldn’t live in fear over it. However, a lot of society in America has become accustomed to fear. I just provided the excerpt from the site to show everyone where I got insight on this idea from is all. And I certainly don’t believe it’s “the end” or something really horrible will happen. I think that something might happen on a spiritual level — maybe people’s attitudes or cultural beliefs or something of the sort is all. 🙂

I saw this movie and I was pretty much disappointed. Ok, cool effects and all, good for the eye, but the movie itself was too long and draggy. Plus some of the escaping-death scenes were so ridiculous that even James Bond is more believable. I thought it was going to be juuust a little bit less cliche than other movies of that kind..!
So, nice to grab some popcorn and watch it with your buddies and have a laugh, but I wish it had been shorter.
December 14, 2009 at 8:03 pm #176215sarahtownyMemberWent to see this at the weekend with my son, I loved it. I laughed when I know I shouldn’t but it was all american cheesy at times. Lots of phone calls home to loved ones blah haha.
Still good film, ate copious amounts of popcorn but then that is the done thing when you go to the cinema! 😀
Now Avator looks flippping amazing, counting the days for that one. The whole Towny crew have booked :0)
