Saw Napoleon Dynamite this past weekend. It’s a quirky film filled with quirky characters in a small town somewhere in the middle of Idaho. It’s a comedy, although not your typical comedy. This one makes you scratch your head and wondery why, and then you laugh to yourself for days afterwards.
Favorite scene: The “skit” after Pedro’s election speech.
The common thread between all the main characters is that they all came from the bottom of the “popularity” food chain, and yet they all end up finding happiness.
Anyone else see this? More than once? Like it? Love it? Hate it?
October 21, 2004 at 9:49 pm #70090BookieMemberI saw it twice and I can’t wait until it comes out on DVD December 21. One of my favorite scenes is when Napoleon throws the grapefruits at Uncle Rico. If you plan on seeing it, stick around after the credits for a bonus scene.
October 22, 2004 at 3:38 am #70092RabidKittenParticipantMy brother wont stop quoting it…and yet, I can’t scrounge up one lousy person to see it with me.
I dislike seeing movies on my own…it’s like that creepy person who sits in the olive garden all by themselves and drinks water and stares at other people having fun…just makes me feel creepy and pathetic. I guess I’ll wait for it to come out on dvd and such *sigh*
October 22, 2004 at 4:17 am #70096SpikeMemberMy History teacher said she saw it and was very pleased with it. She said there was a lot of historical background in it, which I thought was different. Bu that’s the mark of a good movie. If the profucers can implement history into something funny and enjoyable, then they did their jobs. I think I’ll wait until it comes out on DVD, though…
November 15, 2004 at 5:15 pm #70091BookieMemberI actually have a copy of Napoleon Dynamite on DVD on my desk. My friend went to China a few weeks ago and came back with this little jewel. You can totally tell it’s pirated but, nevertheless, I’ll be watching it this week with some of my coworkers who never got to see it in the theaters. My friend says you can pretty much get any movie on DVD in China within a few days of it coming out in theaters.
November 15, 2004 at 6:41 pm #70088detn8rParticipantUm, I haven’t seen this movie but I’m going to assume it has nothing to do with Napoleon Bonaparte?

Uh, yeah, that is correct. 😀 Check out the DVD when it comes out.
January 5, 2005 at 2:13 am #70101LinuxAddictMemberIt took about two months before I decided to go see the movie. I loved it. And now I understand why my nickname on the football team was Napoleon Dynamite. I used to an afro like his and I can sort of talk like him.

None of my friends can stop quoting it. Good stuff – what’d ya think?!January 5, 2005 at 7:00 am #70093RabidKittenParticipantspike wrote:My History teacher said she saw it and was very pleased with it. Are we talking about the same movie? I see very very little historical background in this movie other than the fact that there’s bad 80’s hair, heh.
I finally saw the flick two weekends ago (my weekend being Wed, Thurs) due to the prodding by my brother and the fact that it came out on DVD, so I rented it and watched it twice, it was great. I actually catch myself using “Napoleonesque” terminology and speech patterns. It’s pretty funny, actually. Now, don’t be jealous just because I’ve been talking to hot babes on the internet all day…
January 10, 2005 at 10:56 pm #70095colinMemberI’ve seen it twice, and I really really like it. What I hate though is when random people will come up to you and yell, “Idiot!” or “Gosh, what do you think?”. Ugh, I just want to beat them down, its so annoying. Other than the over-quoting of the movie, I really did like it. However, I thought Anchorman was WAY better.

I can agree with most everyone: It was so stupid it was funny. (Original, huh?) I laughed so hard, and the part where Napoleon’s brother says “Don’t be jealous that I’ve been chatting online with babes, all day!” I immediately thought ‘OMFG Detn8r’s sig! Now I get it!’ Heh, great, stupid, and funny movie, altogether.
January 11, 2005 at 12:16 am #70094AwesomeSauceParticipantOh, I saw this movie twice, it is absolutely hilarious. Napoleon Dynamite is my neighbor’s cousin, by the way. It’s just funny, the way he acts/behaves, and phrases like “Your mom goes to college!”. “Your mom” is a phrase that _everybody_ at my school uses.
January 23, 2005 at 4:07 am #70098gossipingraeMember“What are you drawing?”
“A liger”
“What’s a liger?”
“It’s pretty much my favorite animal. It’s like a lion and a tiger mixed…bred for its skills in magic.”HAHAHA I didn’t see the movie yet, but one of my friends keeps it in her profile in AIM, and I saw it on a preview on a movie I rented last night. They were all out of copies yesterday, so maybe next weekend when I go home. Mom and Dad are going on vacation for a month next Friday, so I gotta pass the time somehow!
February 2, 2005 at 7:47 pm #70100DrBroccoliParticipantWell I saw it, loved it, bought it, watched it 30+ times (hehe). Now I am the guy at school who is known for starting the over exaggerated “gosh”. I love the deleted scene where they Jocks ask him why he is in “The Happy Hands Club”
