MemberI have a Linksys Wireless-B broadband router that is hooked up to our main computer downstairs, and it also runs internet to my brother’s computer upstairs. Ever since we installed it it has caused AIM to constantly disconnect and reconnect on both comps. It also does the same thing with MSN & yahoo. I have tried opening up the 5190 port for AIM but that doesn’t seem to work. Sometimes I can stay connected downstairs, but my brother’s comp will have problems and vice versa. I tried emailing Linksys about it and they were no help. Does anyone know what I can do to solve this?

ParticipantAre you running the latest Linksys firmware on the router?

MemberI have a Linksys Wireless-G router which is the newest one and it has been great no problems except that I have to open ports every so often… But I have never had your problem maybe you do need the firmware.

MemberI also have the same hardware on my computer, but I have a wireless-G. Are you sure that it is the router that is causing the connection problem? We had the same problem, not with AIM, but with the whole internet connection, and we had started with a Belkin router, and finally we switched to Linksis, with a Belkin router on the main computer. Either try reinstalling the software, or reinstating the connection between the two computers. Are you using the latest version of AIM?

MemberMy brother has tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software on both comps, disconnected all the cables from the modem and the router and reconnected them, and there was no change. We hadn’t experienced any problems with the internet until the router was first installed. I have version 5.9.3690 of AIM on the comp downstairs and my brother has an older version b/c when he recently tried installing 5.9 it wouldn’t work. What exactly is firmware? That’s the only thing I’m not real sure about.

ParticipantFirmware is the Operating System of the router (Linux I’m sure), think of it as Windows for your router. Check http://www.linksys.com for your firmware, and install the latest version.
I think this is your router, click on “firmware” on the right side. http://www.linksys.com/products/product.asp?grid=33&scid=35&prid=544

MemberI also have the same problem with the Wireless-G modem/router on windows XP. My AIM disconnects and reconnects all day long, it’s very annoying. So annoying that I pretty must use yahoo most of the time now. I’ve had the problem for about 4 months and still have not found a fix for it.
There is no updated firmware for this router, so that is out. Also, the problem happens with older and new versions of AIM. It is very annoying. I have no internet connection problems and no problems with any other programs/messangers, just AIM.
I’d love to find a fix for this….
