Over 6 Senators of our fine govenment are trying to make a law that would force all computer and digital home entertainment devices sold in the US to have “policeware” built into them. Policeware would restrict the your use of copyrighted material such as, DVDs, music files, CDs, and videoclips. If you listen to MP3s, burn cds, or share video files you’d face up to 5 years in prison and a wonderful $500,000 fine. Sign the patition like I did. At least do something to fight this injustice. This is the government trying to keep its grasp on technology, and they’re doing a sloppy job. This is a perfect example.
I signed that a while back. If enough people voice their displeasure, it won’t come to fruition. We have to make them understand that consumer rights are more important than copyrights.
I find this disgusting, you wouldnt allow the government to send a police man to live in your home and monitor what you were doing 24/7 because of something that you might not have even done, or might not do at all! Besides, if this is passed than people will figure out how to stop it from working! I dont believe that they could catch people tampering with the policeware if the people know how to really use a computer, after all, they havnt been able to shut down those big warez sites yet and millions of people know about them! Also, no matter how hard they try to get linux to include policeware, there will always be older versions and versions that will refuse to include policeware on the net, and they will most likely not get caught either. I urge people to help the fight, and thank you atlas for bringing this to our attention.

Sure they could. It’s a matter of checking if the computer is online and then checking if the policeware on the computer responds. If the policeware doesn’t respond, but the computer is online, then the software is removed/stopped somehow.

Sorry, I meant to say that even if they found out if somone had altered or delted the policeware than an experienced use would probably not be caught, believe me, if policeware is passed than not long after it is brought into effect there will be tutorials all over the net on how to protect yourself from it. People like their music. Not to mention $600 products that they will only use a few times anyway…
I believe that this would most likely end up as a very expensive waist of money.
Well, I am down with all of you on this one. This is just the latest instance of the government trying to violate our rights to privacy…and as patriotic as I am, I have to say that our system of government now sickens me. The problem isn’t democracy itself but rather the perversions that our congressmen have put in place to give us the “system.” The system is a self-serving righteous monster that continues to spiral downward and stealing our rights and freedoms along the way (of course you already know this). Its bad enough that the government has access into our private lives and homes by means of telephone lines and the internet, but now they are trying to force us to “adopt-a-cop” as well….NO WAY!!!

Patriotism means love of one’s country. That’s a good thing. We love the ideals of freedom this great nation was founded on. The current government has apostated from those ideals and is something to be reviled instead of loved. Don’t think that you’re unpatriotic for not loving the current government or for being against policeware.
I havent heard anything about this lately,i HOPE that it history!!!!!!!!!!
Although,we all know they are doing this already,they just wanna make it legal so they can USE IT LEGALLY,the way they are doing it now,they cant!!!!!!
