Is it possible to have different screen resolutions for each user on XP home? I prefer a rather large screen resolution while the rest of my family thinks 1024×768 is pushing on the “everything too small” side, they’d be more than happy with 800×600 (:woot: ), so is this possible?

April 21, 2005 at 1:51 am #119972DrBroccoliParticipantWell if I change mine, then log off, the welcome screen is my resolution then the next user has that resolution…
May 14, 2005 at 12:39 am #119973DrBroccoliParticipantwell any suggestions?
May 14, 2005 at 12:51 am #119968DavidParticipantThere are a few programs around (Command line EXEs) that will allow you to set the screen resolution ‘screenres.exe 800 600 32 60′ etc, then you can throw that in a logon script. Google around for one, if you can’t find one I’ll write one for you on Monday. (I have the source for a GUI version already written, but it’s saved on the schools’ network share)

[edit] ok so I found a program… when I log on the screen goes black and changes to my reso. same for everyone else… thanks anyway!
May 14, 2005 at 3:33 am #119969DavidParticipantSo is it working or not? Basically what you would need to do once you obtain a program is create the registry keys under /run/ for each user to specify a different resolution. If you tell me what program you’re using, I can give you more detailed help.

Instead, you should put a shortcut to the program in the user’s “Startup” folder in the start menu. But, judging from your reply, you found a program that did all of this already for you.

I use XP Per User Display Settings by Doug Knox to achieve such functionality. Also, there are a number of useful tools on Doug Knox’s site so have a browse if you have the time :).
May 17, 2005 at 8:02 pm #119975DrBroccoliParticipantThat’s exactly what I found!
