Firstly, I know Jeff is away, but I thought I’d post this while its on my mind.
When someone links to the results of a search, like Aqeel in this thread, I, and I assume others, get a ‘No results found’ message. Here’s another example of the problem in a thread I posted in.
This seems to be a problem which is inconsistant, sometimes it will happen, and sometimes it won’t. I’m just wondering if there’s anything that can be done about it.
it’s odd too, since it references a search id instead of search terms, which would make the search a little more obvious… i’ve noticed this problem a few times as well, and it’s rather frustrating.
Ever since we changed the site, search has been a HUGE PITA. Though, we all seem to be muddling through… with only a few scratches here and there…I am sure Jeff will look into it when he returns. Great question though….:) I think Jeff addressed it somewhere in Staff room when I was trying to put search id’s…let me do some searching (HA!) and I’ll post the link…maybe 😀
Well, I am not sure this TOTALLY has what’s going on (in fact it may have NOTHING to do with this at all.) but I found the topic…it was a question I had for him when I was trying to merge topics not too long ago.
It’s not so much a problem for me personally, but I figured that we’re supposed to encourage new members to actively use the Search function before posting. It’s alright linking to the Search page itself, but it would be a little more helpful to the newbies if we could perform a search on their behalf, and then link to the results.
