I wonder that if it might not be that new members dont want to use the search tool, but that they dont know we have one. It’s stuck in the upper right hand corner, not very noticable in my opinion. We dont exactly have to have all the features that the search page does, just the keyword box and an option to select what forum to search.

hmm… that first one is hosted on an Invision board. Maybe I might grab that one for moi.
As for the idea, I couldnt have said it better my self. Great idea, from a great mind. Good job. I second the vote.
I don’t think new users are THAT oblivious. I’m sure that in most cases it’s not that they can’t find the search location or even try to use it, they just want to post to find a quick answer. It may be a good idea to make the “use search feature before posting” standout to users but I doubt it makes that much of a difference.
Id go for the add on. Yes, new ones would like a quick answer, but Im sure if we had a poll, asking members if they searched the forums using the search utility for manually, they’d say… “BBB has a search utility?” Like my first time I was here, I didnt know there was a forum out side MSN. I kept posting the same topic in the wrong forum, not knowing that the moderator moved it. Its a good idea, and I think new members would benifit from it.
