Is there a freeway to add a secure encryption method to trillian? If yes would it work with all id’s (YIM, AOL, ICQ etc..)? I’m looking for something secure, a high level of security.
Thanks,
Well trillian already has secure IM on AIM and ICQ. It uses a very strong encryption standard, so people listening in on your network won’t stand a chance at decryting it. Unfortunately it always makes and exchanges keys at the start of the session (as opposed to using public keys), so it’s susceptible to “man-in-the-middle” attacks by people with accounts on internet servers between you and your conversee.
It is possible to add encryption to Trillian Pro in the form of a plugin on any medium, as demonstrated by this attempt. This particular example is probably not what you’re looking for though, since although it uses public keys (so isn’t susceptable to man-in-the-middle attacks) it doesn’t use a very high bitrate, so any determined listener could crack the encyrption.
