MemberI hope this isn’t against forum policy.
I was wondering if there were any type of web sites, add-ons, programs that would be able to tell me who has my screen name on some else’s buddy list. Some research showed that buddytree.com use to do it, but the site no longer exsist.
Any idea?

Memberbuddytree . com asked people to submit their .blt files. then they added this to their database and made it all searchable. it wasn’t a project by AOL — because of this it was really lacking — they could only get information from people who submitted their buddylists AFTER finding out about the website.
On AIM/AOL you cannot see who has added you to your buddy list via the software — unlike Yahoo! and others.
An easy way to check who has added you is to write something SO CRAZY and OFF BEAT in your profile that all the people that DO have you on their buddy list IM you immediately and recommend psychological help. Of course, they could take you seriously and spread malicious rumors about you.

WOW, thank you for that insightful recommendation. LOL. Thats one way to find out. But honestly, how many people check there buddies profiles? I don’t think ive looked at a AIM profile in a few years.

MemberReally? I haven’t been on AIM recently (everyone i knew disappeared into the real world.) IIRC, when i wasn’t talking to other people i was checking their profiles. It was like getting to know them a little better by getting some information about their lives. i guess AIM profiles have been mostly replaced with myspace and facebook pages in the last year. On the internet you used to get to know a person little by little (like in real life)… but now you know all their intimate details straight up by viewing their myspace page. There’s no point in meeting someone online anymore. I dunno, maybe i’m crazy… this is just how i feel these days — there are no longer intimate relationships formed online.

KeymasterI think checking AIM profiles has been replaced with “checking Myspace/Facebook updates.” In some ways, maybe AIM was the first social network.

MemberAIM is probably most used in colleges and universities (especially those that are WiFi-based and issue their students laptops.) A friend of mine goes to an all female uni down in PA, and she says they are issued laptops but have to pay through their ass for them each semester.
Actually, the trend nowadays isn’t so much reading buddy profiles, but… Away messages. That’s the craze now, I figure.
I, myself, would much rather use email or the cellphone. With email, you get flexibility, not having to answer immediately, as well as being able to send messages that are more articulated, precise, and well-thought out; instead of the usual: yo dud3 i m h3r3 w#3r3 r u? r w3 g0!ng 2 mandys or n0t?
For instant communication, the cell is best, imho. Although, the cell & AIM have intercollided, since everyone now has sidekicks and pocket PCs.
Now as for figuring out who has added you to your buddy list…. it’s quite simple. PM me, and i’ll tell anyone who’d like to know.

Did anyone ever PM him to see his method on finding out who has you added? I know with the new AIM they did try something like this I just think it was a flop. Here’s an older thread I made on another forum.
Due to the new Life-stream you can see who added you to their BL, how many people have you on their buddylist, and depending on weather or not their sharing their Buddy list.

If you want to turn off life-stream here’s the URL: LifeStream.AIM
Also, Zerxer used the AIM Web-Based API to login and use this feature.
It’s also open source URL: http://www.sitexero.net/aim/
Source: PHP | <?php session_start(); if( – Zerxer – f21eeb144 – Pastebin.com -
