MemberJust today i have been seeing names log off my messenger that are not on my buddy list. I have everything turned off pm,s chat invites ect. Am i under risk of being booted by those names? or am i safe because they are not on MY list. I have a feeling somone has been adding me to their list.

MemberThats a new one on me. To my knowledge no one can add you to their friends list without your knowledge unless they have access to your account. If your worried about it then you should download buddy spy and when you see a name that has logged out write their login name down so not to forget it and open buddy spy and remove yourself from their list. good luck

MemberI’ve had that happen to me before too, but not recently. (names not on my list appear to log out)…can you use buddy spy to take yourself off someone’s list? I have it and can’t see where or how you’d do that…maybe there’s two programs with similar names.
I never worried too much when I saw it happen just because I’ve always felt Yahoo was pretty ‘mixed up’…to be polite lol

MemberThere are a few possibilties. If you have had Yahoo! for a long time there were times when people could add you without your knowledge…it might be one of them. (Though I doubt it)
It could also be that these are alias names of people you know OR that you added these people long ago, erased them, but they still have you on their lists and have the “invisible” to you option marked.
What is most likely is that it’s a Yahoo! server thing and it will go away in the not-to-distant future. 🙂May 15, 2006 at 12:22 pm #144438Eagle_Kiwi
MemberI see odd names “coming” and “going” occasionally, but these are invariably people I DO have on my list, though I’ve almost forgotten them as I never see them online.
But I think if you stay invisible, people who have you on their list will still see the brief popup when you sign in or out, though they’ll never actually see you “online”.But if you’re certain these names are NOT on your list, I don’t think it would make any difference if YOU are on THEIR lists or not – the only names YOU should ever see are those on YOUR list.
Weird, and certainly unnerving!
I guess go on the offensive with NoBuddy or some such, OR just sit back and keep an eye on it, but blame Yahoo, as Oreo suggests. 😉May 16, 2006 at 1:16 am #144436Dermot
ParticipantThis is one of the issues that happen when your stay online when yahoo! are working on their network.
This will happen a lot more frequent in the next few weeks and will happen with conferences also.
You will recieve conference invites sent to others on your list..instead of them…etc
Just server glitches when they are been worked on.

MemberIt could be a few reasons. Up until the removal of Java/ycht you could add someone without them knowing.
But I’m wondering if it’s a glitch where these are actually people who are on your list, it’s just someone under a different name.
Also, I wonder if has anything to do with a 360 page. If you have someone on that page that is not on your messager it somehow applies to that.
The only reason I say this, is that the only thing that is really on the yahoo servers is your friends list, Most of the other stuff is kept locally on your computer.
Of course this is a guess, and would need further investigation. However recently, I have been hearing of this more and more. But just recently.

MemberIf this is any help on the subject, In the past two weeks, I’ve used “ZaksNoBuddy” to remove my name from three of these ID’s (that you see going offline) that aren’t on my list. So I would say that somehow and for some reason, you can now be added to someone’s list, …..without you knowing or giving permission. The problem for me is, when the names have the characters in the names and you can’t remember the exact number of characters before the prompt dissapears, there have been two ID’s that had the numerous characters in the name, which I could’nt remember well enough to check a profile. Yes all the ID’s profiles were blank. Also since I’ve started seeing these ID’s go offline…….I now get logged out of yahoo quite a bit………So yes, there is a Problem.

MemberI think (but am not positive) if you put your cursor over the name as it’s logging out on the bottom right it will stay there until you move your cursor away…that way you could have a better chance of catching what name it was.

MemberOr you could set the messenger to show you a dialog box when somebody signs out if thats not too much trouble for you.The dialog box will stay on your desktop until you close it so this way you’ll never miss anybody signing out.

Memberi’ve been having this same problem for a few weeks now. it’s quite bothersome since i keep a pretty tight lid on my friends list. i get the same thing as previously mentioned…blank profiles. and if i message the “person” i get no response. it’s been happening with maybe about 10-12 different usernames coming and going each day. sometimes more, sometimes less. sometimes there will be multiple logons or logoffs at a time with various different usernames. i know that none of these people have ever been on my list and it seems like some of them may be bots. very odd. if anyone has any new info i’d be interested in hearing the scoop.

ParticipantWhat happened to me was I saw someone log off who’s id doesn’t look familiar and it went online at the same time my friend came on. I checked with him if it was his alias and said no. I was using beta with voice version and also version 7 build 120 on another pc. Now after so many weird things happening to me, I’m convinced that it has a lot of bugs in it like the following (and I know there could be more):
*People not in my list coming online but they are not in my list
*Stealth doesn’t work 🙁 for some people in my list, probably using a different version (though im not sure what version they are using)
*The same person keeps on Adding me and the person doesn’t even exist when I checked the profile. (talk about yahoo ghosts)Anyway, try upgrading like what I did today. Got the new yahoo version (FULL) 7.5 build 814 and at least the annoying add request stopped. I haven’t experienced or tested the first 2 items but hopefully I won’t be worrying too much about it.

ParticipantThere are so many options Yahoo! should make avilable to it’s users but they don’t.
Automatic denying of buddy requests is one.
Been able to pick how many active pm windows are allowed on screen.
Settings an auto ignore filter with user submitted data
etc..etcBut yeah it’s getting better…slowly but surely.
however the bot situation is getting out of hand like aol chat got like.
