MemberYou didnt offend anyone at all Jessica. We are honoured if we can help you contact people with such a big and difficult problem. Maybe someone will read this and finally get the help they need. All I can say is thank you for offering help through BBB.
Some people might not want to share such an experience in a forum, but I encourage self injurers to contact Jessica and get help.N.-

MemberI encourage you to stop cutting yourself.
It’s stupid and irresponsible. The need to hurt yourself is only there because of your need for attention. It’s like those sick freaks who make there kids sick so others feel sorry for them. Not cool.Edit – My apologies for my harshness. It was even more stupid and irresponsible. If there is anything I can do to help you, let me know.

KeymasterYour body is sacred — a temple — and you are priceless. You may not feel that way all the time, or even some of the time, but it’s true.
You’re doing the right thing by seeking (and giving) support with others who share your pain. I’d also suggest counseling if you’re not already. Someone I know used to have a problem with that, and while he still is getting counseling, he hasn’t cut himself in several years and on a good path.

DangerBoy – you mind not insulting members?? it’s not necessarily a call for attention. every person is unique, and everyone has their own issues. i’d say it’s pretty sadistic and sick to call someone “stupid and irresponsible” when you have no idea what they’re going through.
StillCryingNow – i’d like to second Jeff’s words… its a good thing you’re seeking help for your problem, its a good step in the right direction… you’re among friends hereMay 19, 2004 at 6:35 am #45045DangerBoy
MemberStop trying to pick fights with me TB. I can post my opinion any damn way I please. If it offends her then that’s her problem, not yours. She is the one who posted it on a public forum. I assume she realized she would get positive and negative opinions. Just because you’re the Forum Princess for the month doesn’t give you the right to tell others what to do. I stand by my opinion, and did not intend it as an insult. It’s the truth as I see it, however hard it may be for you or anyone else to take.Edit – statement retracted. All apologies.

MemberDangerBoy, why are you suddenly talking about opinions and the freedom to express them? If your opinion offends other people, you should keep it to yourself. Especially since ‘StillCryingNow’ merely tried to get in touch with other self-injurers. She did not ask for your opinion.

And I’m sure that about 90% of the forum users agree with you. Injuring yourself is certainly not on the list of ‘smart things to do’, however your choice of words is wrong. If you can’t vow your opinion in a firm and proper way (like everyone else here), then maybe you should refrain from posting your opinions in the future.
On a side note, I’d strongly advise you to not reply to this. I have a great dislike for people who use ‘Freedom of speech’ as an excuse to insult anyone they like.

Not really.
I could call fat people lazy, greedy pigs and if it offends them thats their problem but I don’t because freedom of speech and being able to say whatever I want are quite different.

Stillcryingnow, it is good that you are so forward with your problem and that you want to get help. That is a huge step and it really shows that you have the courage to get through this, stay strong sweety. A great way to get help is search the web for help forums and hotlines, Google is always open to help you search. 😉
For some of the members here who were insulting, I did a search and found this, just so you know a little about the subject, and so you can be careful what you say next time. Don’t be ignorant, words are more powerful than you may think.

Member[Edit]: I told you not to reply. I do not need to explain to you what ‘being nice’ is.
– DJ
[Edit]: You do need to know how to be nice in order to explain it. Thanks for trying though.
– DBDr. Kimble, thank you for the website link. According to that site it says this about my statement:
Quote:quote:Are people who cut themselves just trying to get attention?
On the contrary, people who cut try and hide it because they are embarrassed and ashamed and feel guilty about their cutting. Studies indicate that cutting is a psychological response to an underlying problem. Victims often experienced physical or emotional neglect as children. The earlier the abuse began, studies show, the more severe the cutting. Sexual abuse victims are the most likely of all to cut.Obviously, according to this my previous statement is wrong. If that is true, then I sincerely apologize. However, this girl has posted this on a public forum not related at all to teen help, which still leads me to believe that this particular girl is simply seeking attention. I hope she can recover from this sickness of cutting herself, but I don’t think reaching out here is the proper place to do it. If she really wants help, she should talk with her parents or others that she can trust. That is my advice, whether you wanted it or not. My apologies to anyone I may have unintentionally offended.
Moderators, if you still have a problem with my actions here, please inform me via email as I do not wish to continue arguing with you in this girls topic.
Edit – Thank you Sciencefeeling for sending me an email with valid points and explanations…that make sense. You have convinced me of my errors, and I have issued apologies to those deserving. I hope your well-mannered approach rubs off on certain other moderators. 😉

Memberi wasnt trying to seek attention at all. and what parents are you talking about? my fathers deceased and to my mother im dead.
if you think im trying to seek attention then fine, I apologize for stating it that way. im mainly trying to find other cutters or self injurers to help them get the help they need as well as myself. I do understand that I posted it on a public forum. and I meant to do so.
the main reason I did this is so that if any self injurers such as myself would like the help they need they can email me without others knowing and I can help them find places they can go. no im not yet in counseling but am soon to be. I apologize to any that I have offended in my seek to help others.
dangerboy, I greatly appreciate you emailing me an apology. I hadnt even seen your reply to my post until I read your email and I did NOT intend on looking at it for a few days so more people had time to reply. though getting your email urged me to do otherwise.
everybody else who supported me I appreciate your concerns and encouragement and defence towards the subject.
i greatly apologize for offending anybody or making my post look like I was seeking “attention”. if you still think I am then so be it. but let our posts (records) show that I have been extremely understanding towards all of your opinions and suggestions.
thnx for your time,
xoxo

MemberWhy we do or don’t do things is usually only understood by ourselves – and eventhen when it comes to something like self-harming we don’t even understand why we do it.
I say ‘we’ because there was a time when I did. I gotten help and have been able to channel my feelings in a more poisitve way. I was fortunate that my mum understood and respected why I did it – she certainly didn’t like having her daughter do such a thing but I was lucky in that she tried to undertand and support me. Many others are not so lucky as I was.
The incidence of folk self-harming is far greater than any of you realise and everyone of you will know someone though who does – even though you may not know about it – so don’t mock, jeer or be unkind or judgmental to anyone who does.
I wrote in my autobiography about developing a condition that started in my teens and it saw me self-harming as I was so troubled and tormented. For those who self-harm perhaps my experiences and those of my mum will be of some help as you and those who care about you face the challenge that is self-harm. If you want check out http://www.thecairn.com (this is not a commercial enterprise but a resource for helping to raise awareness by the way) I hope it helps a bit.
Take care, S
