As we all clearly know, September 11th is approaching. Is where you live preparing some special event to the tragic moment? I think it’s becoming a holiday of sorts, but I can’t be sure. How about you guys?

Quote:quote:becoming a holidayCongratulations. That’s the most disgusting thing I’ve ever heard you say. 9/11 obvoiusly hasn’t affected or touched you in any way. It’s becomming a day of mourning; it always has been since – not a holiday.
Here? No nothing memorable is happening to my knowledge. Probably there will be a ceremony at school to repect the unfortunate ones – but I don’t think my city has anything in mind.
I usually would say something here about the 9/11 attack – but it could offend some… okay it would offend 90% of the members of these forums… US residents. meh. I’m be quiet.

-Isn’t a holiday a day or two, where you take the day off enjoying yourself, sipping lemonaide on the beaches of Florida??
I’m sure I wouldn’t be doing that during that time.
From me living in the biggest city, and most populated city in Canada, being Toronto, of course we will be having a masive cermoney remembering those of 9.11. Especially since we are so close to New York, and having many residents mothered from NY.___________________________________

July 31, 2002 at 10:11 pm #101276Mr. DiablosMemberI said, I don’t have control over NJ laws, the holiday thing is just a rumor. And I care heavily for 9/11, as I have a lot of family in NY whose necks coulda been on the line. And when you say ‘memorable’ it sounds good. This, obviously wasn’t good. So think twice before you call me ‘disrespective’ on this issue.

Okay Diablos – I’m not trying to jump on yer back here…

I don’t have control over NJ lawsI know. Of course you don’t. But they way you phrased yourself gave me in the impression that you were actually a bit “happy”. Sorry. My bad.
Quote:quote:the holiday thing is just a rumor.Sorry – maybe I misunderstood you again. But you made it seem like it was _your opinion.
Mr. Diablos said: “I think it’s becoming a holiday”
No that definitley CANNOT be your opinion.
Quote:quote:And when you say ‘memorable’ it sounds good. This, obviously wasn’t good. Most people think that ‘memorable’ refers to a positive event. But it’s just a …okay – assumption. The refer to it as positive because come on – who wants to remember negative things in life. Imagine – a beautiful ceremony in loving memory to respect the unfortunate ones of the tragic events on 9/11. Now I don’t think you’d just wanna throw that out the back of your mind. You’d want to remember it because it had meaning. You’d want to keep it a memory. Memory. Memorable.

[email protected]August 1, 2002 at 5:09 am #101263Jeff HesterKeymaster9/11 was memorable, although definately not a happy memory.
I have heard many people recall exactly where they were when President Kennedy was assassinated back in the early 60’s. I was too young to remember that, but I think this will be a similar event.
I can remember exactly where I was when I found out about 9/11. I was in my home office, dialing in for a teleconference. I was the only caller online, when I got an instant message from one of my co-workers saying that a plane had just crashed into the World Trade Center. I quickly turned on the TV and saw the events unfold. It was chilling.
I hope that we all remember that day, and use it to reflect on our lives here on this Big Blue Ball we call earth, and what we are doing personally to make it a better place.

‘holiday’ derived from ‘holy day’, I have no problem with it being a holiday.
I can appreciate the religious significance of the event, How short are your memories?Rhiannon

‘holiday’ derived from ‘holy day’You really think _that_ was the ‘holiday’ Mr. Diablos was refering to? No offense Mr. Diablos – but heck I’d be surprised if he even knew what the non-commercial definition of holiday was – what 15 year old kid does know? I’m pretty sure he was refering as to the commercial ‘holiday’ that we’ve grown to know that “theoretically”; has no religious aspects.

I didn’t take what he said as offensive. Thank you Mr. Diablos for this topic. I don’t think my town is doing anything…I live in Oregon, but it still affected me and I will always remember that day.August 1, 2002 at 8:31 pm #101266shearheavenMemberQuote:quote:

I agree with you Jeff…it will always be a memorable day for all time…and never a happy one. I remember exactly where I was also…My daughter was getting ready for school and we overheard her radio…we quickly turned on the TV and stood there in disbelief.
As we watched we even saw the second tower go down…Our hearts sank and tears rolled down my face. They say something good always comes from something bad…well…if in fact that is true, and I do believe it is to some degree…It has pulled this Nation Under God together, as one. Exspecailly when you try to buy a large U.S.A. flag to hang at your doorsteps months afterwards and they are still all sold out…When we finally were able to buy one it has never come down…and never will…

Thanks for the support, TL.
I remember where I was too. Social Studies Class, 1st day ‘o’ school. When I first heard it, I didn’t undertand, thought it was a hoax. Then when I came home, there it was. The tape of the planes connecting with the towers. There were so many thoughts rushing through my head, I thought I was gonna fall over.
This thread was a good idea, and I’ll make it that way.

August 2, 2002 at 1:02 am #101267AnnaParticipantSeems my mouth got the best of me like usual . I’m not trying to push anyone down here if you guys see it that way – Sorry. It’s just how I am… I criticize too much and I know I should change. I have a naive determination to be happy.
Quote:quote:
You yourself realize he’s 15 so you should know his vocabulary may not be as extensive as yours.Heck. Let’s drop the age issue – it’s too irrelavant. I’m no older than Mr. Diablos over there. I just turned 15 three days ago.
Quote:quote:
Why are you making a big deal about him when you know what you would say is offensive to 90% of the people here? What I would say is a generalized opinion of the US as a whole which I could say in a way – strung on the 9/11 attack. Not a specific point at 9/11. And I’m not ashamed of the fact that it will offend many.
Since we’re on the topic of telling everyone where we were at those moments…
I was in second period at school; english I believe. My teacher told us “planes crashed into buildings in New York”. And that was that – she didnt say anything else.I’ll shut my mouth. I dont seemed to be liked for any outgoing-ness I produce. I take a step back, look down and despise 9/11 in a different way than most of you do in your own ways. I’m an objectivist – what can I say?

[email protected]August 2, 2002 at 3:41 am #101272detn8rParticipantI guess I will also share where I was at the moment where I found out about 9.11. It was also second period for me, I was in hospitality class, and when I was washing my hands, and came out of the kitchen, one cook told me brielfy that she was scared, and wanted to go home with her children, where it was safe. I had NO IDEA what she was talking about, and I asked her, and my jaw hit the ground. It was so unbelievable. Alot of teachers, and students wern’t normal that day, and I dont blame them. It was scary, with me living right next door to New York, and not knowing if the CN Tower, or Canada’s Wounderland, could have been next. I remember going to the library on my lunch, and watching the news on the many TV’s that were posted around the library. I sat in disbelief as the second plane went through the buildings, and hearing students and teachers cry and scream. I know that I am not an American, but I felt proud to wear an American Flag pin on my shirt for two weeks after the event.
