Hello,
I’ve used my Yahoo webcam for a while, and like it. I wanted to use Super Webcam, so I opened port 5100 on my firewall. Only problem is, now whenever I fire up my cam, I get a message saying, “The Server is busy, please close the window and try again after a few minutes” It does say that it’s in Super Mode Format in the window, but a lot of good it does me if I can’t connect…I ALWAYS get this message now! I disabled port 5100 on my firewall, in the hopes that would force the cam back into ‘standard mode’, but no dice. It always opens in Super Mode, and I always get that message.
I’ve tried going into the prefs and telling it to only open in standard mode, but that didn’t help at all. Has anybody had any luck using Super Mode through a firewall, or at least forcing it back to standard mode? I’m out of ideas. I emailed Yahoo support, and never heard back.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

https://bigblueball.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1952&SearchTerms=Server,BusyDecember 7, 2002 at 9:45 pm #66377EclipsedWraithMemberThe way I have fixed this issue in the past if go into the Folder you have yahoo installed in, where you have: Folders Cache, default, etc.. and look for your Username.. example.. mine is EclipsedWraith.. once you find it.. make sure it has the extension wcp .. *example eclipsedwraith.wcp* .. Delete that file.. and your webcam will be unlocked from super mode.. instantly.. no need to restart yahoo. You could also just do a search for *.wcp on your system.. if that is easier..
Hope that helps..Patrick

Guess I’m still stuck. Every once in a while it will work in standard mode, but this is the exception, not the rule.

Hey Jerky! I know i am nobody to talk to you about this kind of stuff, but…did you check for hidden files…???
(sure u did, cause i know u, but just making sure…)
And..another thing..did you try going to preferences<super webcam<…and check the "When Super Mode is available..always run in Standard Mode"
Sure u did too, but no harm in trying right???
That Spanish girl you know and who wants to view your webcam again soon!!.
:pDecember 10, 2002 at 9:35 pm #66379DidsMemberThe ‘Server busy’ messages makes total sense to me.
Super webcam is only supposed to be used between two people chatting, not thru a yahoo server like the old webcam mode.
I think this is why you can’t just fire your webcam on when you choose super mode because you have no current connection. Seems like it doesn’t detect that and tries to connect to the other party in vain.
When you fire up you webcam in normal mode, the picture you see is actually sent to the server and back to you, to judge how fast your connection speed is. You can’t do that in super mode.
What I don’t understand is how inconsistent the setting is. I opened the port on my firewall, got it working and then it stopped without me changing any settings. It now thinks super mode is unavailable.
Doesn’t seem like that part of their code is thoroughly tested 😀

December 11, 2002 at 4:08 am #66381FunkyDoGooderMemberHey guys, I finally found somewhere talking about my prob! Unfortunately, not a fix… 🙁
The problem is definitely Super Webcam mode, as you said. I put it in Super Webcam a while ago and now I’m trying to get it to login, but I get the message. It used to be working. So I went in my settings to fix it and set it to Standard mode, as you all have told me. From there, no change. But I can see when I start my cam that it’s starting in Super webcam mode. If Yahoo wants to do anything, they should fix that. 🙂
I tried the *.wcp thing but no dice. Anyway guys, if I come across a solution, I’ll let you know.
Thanks. 🙂
December 11, 2002 at 4:26 am #66380FunkyDoGooderMemberOk folks… So I fixed the problem, and I can’t seem to recreate it. 🙂 Funny how that works. I updater my Y! in between using it in Super Mode last and the surfacing of this problem, so maybe upgrading while having Super Mode set as the default causes it. I don’t know, you guys will have to sound off about that.
Anyway, so I did two things. First, I decided that if the prob was in the prog interacting with my nick being set on Super Mode, I should try the same prog with a different nick but everything else the same. Done. New nick, same prog, same cam, nothing changed and Bing! Cam working. I checked the Preferences and it was set to ask me about Super Mode. So I thought cool, put it on Standard Mode, hit Apply, and then switched users.
Before I started my webcam, I checked the Preferences, set it to Standard Mode, hit Apply and then started up the cam. Worked like a charm.
So folks, I can’t tell you what caused it. But this worked for me. 🙂 Good luck out there!

February 9, 2003 at 7:46 am #66384Th3zMemberI had the exact same problem, and came a accross a solution to Yahoo’s poor programming. When chatting with someone, click Friend, Invite to View My Webcam. This apparently tricks the server into thinking it’s not busy anymore…right.
February 12, 2003 at 11:11 am #66386Wake_rider325MemberI’ve had this problem for about 6 months now and I just figgured out how to fix it. I went into add/remove programs then I custom uninstalled it removing everything. Then I went and deleted the Yahoo! folder from cprogram files. Next I reinstalled and I had no problem’s so far.
February 13, 2003 at 10:28 pm #66388EldorianMemberI’ve had this problem for quite some time now. A few months. I’ve tried all of these suggestions here and I can’t get it to work. It’s really aggrivating.
February 13, 2003 at 10:57 pm #66387EldorianMemberUPDATE: If I log into yahoo chat and click the webcam button, it loads up fine.
I just can’t get it to braodcast at all if I’m talking to a friend over YIM (I hate yahoo chat rooms by the way). I get the server busy message, but if I load up a yahoo chat room, it works fine.
February 14, 2003 at 12:00 am #66385FireDudeMemberOne question how do you open a port on Zone alarm firewall? I can’t get my cam to work becuase I get a message saying that I am behind a firewall but I have given Yahoo permission to access the net.

In the past, I used the free version of ZoneAlarm. The configuration was quite simple to make. When you launched a program that requested a network access for the first time, ZA asked you whether you wanted to allow it either in inbound or outbound direction (or both).
Webcam access for Yahoo! Messenger Webcam comes on port 5100 TCP
You had the ability to check to radio button to allow it once or everytime !
I don’t really know if it works the same way with “ZoneAlarm Pro”, but the principle is just the same.
After having used the free ZoneAlarm (I love free softwares), I switched to another one that gave me more ability to fine tune my firewalling rules : “Tiny Personal Firewall”
