I am not sure where to put this question but I know it is of interest to every person who posts in every forum on this site. That question is – is there some place i can put pictures and have all of my favorite sites, i.e. facebook, yahoo picture space, google picture space, word press, etc all draw from that one place so that I don’t have to keep uploading the same pics all the time to each site? I researched this question about 3 years ago but at that time there were almost no options to do this.
There are two ways to approach this, and neither is perfect.
OPTION #1 – Host in one spot and link everywhere
You can upload and host the photos in one spot, then link to them from everywhere else. The best solution I’ve found for this is Flickr. You can upload to Flickr, then use the Share menu and it will give you the code (either HTML or BBCODE) for inserting on a blog or forum. If you configure the Yahoo application in Facebook, any new photos you post in Flickr will automatically get displayed on your Facebook wall.
The downside to this is that it’s not as well integrated with other sides. For example, your Flickr photos may show on your wall, but they won’t show in your Facebook albums. If someone clicks on the photo thumbnail to see the larger version, it takes them to Flickr.
OPTION #2 – Use an app or service to auto-upload everywhere.
There are a number of services and apps that will do this. If you’re taking photos on an iPhone, I recommend Instagram. Instagram will let you configure connections to Flickr, Facebook, Twitter, Posterous, Tumblr and Foursquare.
Another alternative service is Ping.fm, which similarly allows you to upload once and have it sent to all the different sites you configure (Flickr, Facebook, etc.). They also have apps in addition to a web interface.
I use a hybrid approach with a little bit of Option #1 AND #2. It all depends on what I want to do.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you come across any other creative solutions.
