Ok, here’s the deal I’m in the market for a new laptop be it windows or OSX. I have heard good things about the MacBook Pro, but I am a little iffy on the high price and am wondering how much power, processing, RAM, and memory I really need and if I could just go to the 2 GHz MacBook. I still want fast perfomance and not sluggish programs, but I just want to know what I could actually get away with having and still have optimum performace. My sister has a Dell E 1705 and it is amazing as well, so I would really like to hear some other people’s opinions. Thanks a lot.
And so, basically, I just use my computer for chatting via AIM, listening to music through iTunes, surfing the web, and doing schoolwork. I do a little photoshop work and once in a while play the Sims. What would be the perfect laptop?

Being in the laptop business, I know them pretty well, as far as what’s prone to break the most and the most types of laptops I see in the shop (versus the fewest).
I recommend (in this order):
