Im really hating this “being able to be signed on in 2 diff locations” crap. My password is nearly IMPOSSIBLE. I know nobody just “guessed” my password, so im assuming someone has hacked into it. And no, I have no idea who. Im wondering if there is ANYWAY I could possibly stop this from happening. Ive changed my passwird several times everytime this happens, each PW being random letters and numbers, but clearly…its not working. I dont feel safe at all and ive been talking to friends who will randomly because furious with me because this random person who has hacked onto my SN is typing rude stuff to them and making it seem as if IM the one writing this stuff. Can someone tell me how I can protect myself from this happening, cause its annoying and I dont like knowing some person is talking to my friends on my SN and getting me in trouble.
Thank you!April 4, 2004 at 12:02 am #81962DavidParticipantI’m thinking you have a keylogger installed, and it is sending your passwords to someone.
Check the task manager for any weird processes, and VirusScan your computer as well.
April 4, 2004 at 12:07 am #81965TheseOceanSkysMemberhaha im outragously bad with computer talk. I have norton antivirus and it skans my comp everyday, but its an older version. I dont think my password is being given out to anyone because I know of people who have DLed something off the net which allows you to break into other peoples account. My boyfriend, being one of them, has this socalled download. For all I know it could be him doing it, I wouldnt be surprised. About this other thing that your talking about, how do I go about doing it? Do you have any other suggestions?!
thanks so much 🙂

Okay, what Version of Windows do you have? (98, XP, 2000, etc.)
Press Control+Alt+Delete and the task manager should come up (Or a menu where you select ‘Task Manager’)
Look for ‘logger’ or ‘keys’ or anything else suspicious. You may want to invest in something like ‘Norton Personal Firewall’ or anything that warns of Outgoing AND Incoming connections, thus you can catch the program that sends the passwords.
April 5, 2004 at 2:33 am #81964TheseOceanSkysMemberThanks os much for putting up with my BS. haha Anyways, im going to DL this Norton personal firewall, my question simply is…will this prevent almost EVERYONE from hacking onto my SN?!
April 5, 2004 at 2:53 am #81960DavidParticipantIf you use it correctly, and you don’t tell anyone your password, then yes, you’d be pretty safe.
April 12, 2004 at 4:24 am #81967FenderGtrsRockMemberanother way that someone could keep getting your password over and over is through your email. try changing your password on your email as well, because a person who somehow got your emails password, could in theory use the password recovery feature in aol to send (to your email) the password to your account. hence getting your password.
April 12, 2004 at 4:37 am #81959KPK102MemberDid you sign off of AIM or get disconnected while being on AIM? Sometimes it still thinks you are logged in if you forgot to close AIM.
April 12, 2004 at 4:51 am #81966CronusParticipantjust a note…this last comment only applies if you got a new IP when you reconnected (assuming it was an internet disconnection, and not just AIM).
April 21, 2004 at 8:41 pm #81963NickSing3MemberI have AOL and I usually only use AIM. Sometimes, when you log on AIM express, or if you have AOL, check your mail, you will forget to sign off and it will still think you are there. Then, the next time you sign on, a message from AOL Member Services will tell you that you are signed on in two different locations. Just go and retrace your steps, and make sure that you log out when you are finished.
