Membersome buddies of mine are signing on as away.. I have a log manager and notifications are on and they aren’t catching an away message being put on.. the only conclusion I can come up with is they are using a program to sign on as invisible and then puting up an away message and then appearing and doing this all within a minute.. i’m wondering if there is a program that enables you to sign on as away or what the deal is? I know there are programs to let you chat while away but these people are signing on as away with out even a second going by. help please..

MemberYour friend is using the ghosting feature. It enables you to sign on as inviisble. Then your friend puts up the away message, and appears online. An aim add-on that allows ghosting is Otsego and you can get it here.

MemberTrillian also allows people to sign on to the AIM service as away if it was set to away when they previsously signed off(although it doesn’t have a ghosting feature).

MemberIf you know they aren’t using Otsego, then you must’ve talked to them, so ask them how they are doing it. And what do you mean they are getting away with something amazing?

Memberanother way is still being connected to aim and being away and then putting your computer in “sleep” mode..once you take the computer out of sleep mode aim will re-connected itself with the same away message you still had right up before putting the computer in sleep mode.
I tried it myself so I know it works.

Memberthese people arn’t so impressive as to find ostego and install it and use it.. unless these ladies are alot smarter then I suspect I dont know what to think.. I have known them for a super long time and used there computer before.. they have a trick up their sleeve and im trying to figure it out. this is for sure the best place to put the heads together and figure out what is going on here.. there are no other progs besides ostego that can do this? when ive looked at what they are using with “peeping tom” it shows they are using AIM 5.0, but they can go invisible if they would like. they are behind a college firewall and im wondering if they are using 5.5 if it will only come up as 5.0 because of the firewall.. im just brainstorming and trying to throw some things out to think about.. thanks guys!
