ParticipantOver the last few days certain things have emerged with yahoo planning a few things mid may.
First off is the offering of unlimited storage in yahoo mail.
second it seems has got to do with chat with some people reporting they are recieving messages like the following from yahoo!.
Quote:Thank you for writing to Yahoo! Messenger. We are currently aware users may experience slow load times when trying to access or communicate in Yahoo! Chat. These issues may be intermittent, allowing access to Yahoo! Chat on some occasions.
Unfortunately, we do not expect that this issue will be resolved until 14 May 2007. We are aware Yahoo! Chat is important to you, and we want to make sure this issue is resolved correctly. We apologize for any inconveniences this may have caused you. While these may be real/fake shows that yahoo! are working on the issue and hopefully will be sorted by mid may.

MemberI wonder if they could be rolling out the next major Yahoo build and/or a change in the YMSG protocol as well? Only time will tell. 🙂
Then again, a month and a half of server lag will be unbearable to some users.

KeymasterWell i cant see why its going to take them until Monday May 14th 2007. There must be a good reason for them to delay it. My idea would be they are preparing the Windows Vista Yahoo Messenger. I thought the rooms could of been slow due to Chatroom Integration with the new Vista Messenger of theirs.

MemberI think they are saying mid may because they have no idea how to fix it and are just saying may so they can keep moving the date.If they knew how to fix it they would of by now.Don’t you think?

ParticipantCan’t see why a beta release of messenger for vista would effect chat servers while they could be related they would not just slow them down due to a handful of people testing an alpha of a upcoming messenger build.
If they are trying a new protocol version or a new login authentication or filters at the network level, perhaps that would deter the bandwidth and cause the lag, but im sure they have their reasons for naming mid may for the fix and mid may for the yahoo mail unlimited rollout and others.
However there is not much anybody but yahoo can do about it but wait and see im afraid 🙂

MemberI agree that there seems to be much more going on besides the vista version.
For months now there have been yahoo issues of logging in, joining rooms, being zipped around to different rooms, unable to even get in a room, room splits where half the room is on one server the other half is on another. Then you’ll get people joining your room, which really are joining another room but they show up on your room list. IT’s been crazy.
Will be interesting to see what they have in store.
