Hello,
We are about to finish an ecommerce site, and it’s running quite slow actually, which is not a good thing at all. We have saved all of the images for web ready, but still the site loads still for a lot of us. Is there anything you guys would recommend that could have the site go faster?
You can check out how slow it is
http://appliancecenterdirect.com
We need it to load literally right awaySo if there is any programs we can download to compress all of the images and make it go even faster/smoother…please let me know
thanks
i’m guessing you used a pagebuilder of some sorts, perhaps dreamweaver or something similar. your markup is… heavy. it’s extremely table-based and non-standards-compliant. that’s part (although a small part, perhaps) of the loading problem. the more markup you include (every font tag, every style tag, etc), the heavier your pages will be, the slower it will load, and the harder it will be to update or change the look of the whole site.
Well for one thing it didn’t even start loading content for about 15 seconds here, then after that it took less than 2 seconds to load the page. I think what you are looking at is not a site loading time, but the response time from the server, either that or some bad DNS, I see it redirects to:
http://0072489.netsolhost.com/xcart/home.php?xid=9df1cc351cc39bf4ce7bdbfa5b1e7217It seemps you did a nice job on the image compression, it’s just your site is very graphic heavy, over 1 MB of image files. If you wanted to improve site load time, not the server response time, cut back on the images a bit, the site seems cluttered to me.
Again, I think you are not looking at bad page load times, but a slow server/DNS.
Edit:
Seems like Tigerblade was typing around the same time I was, I would strongly advice you take his advice as well. Also, to answer your question, I am not aware of a program that will magically re-save your site compressed, if anything I call it photoshop, notepade, and my hands.
i also suggest you check out HTML Tidy to clean up the markup as much as possible, as well as get it towards standards compliance.
thanks for all of the advice.
yes, our coder actually used dreamweaver. he did smarty templates…whatever exactly that means.

Yes, we do use tables to set up the pages, but tables shouldnt have an affect on on the speed. I use tables on A LOT of my other websites, and it doesnt slow it down.
Also, what do you mean every font tag/style tag/etc. We mainly use only 1 or 2 different font styles.I wouldn’t worry so much about the tables — that isn’t what is causing the problem. I ran the Webdeveloper Extension for Firefox (an excellent tool) and checked the document size. It came up with the following:
