skin it? Actually all i really want is a more distint icon for aim between someone who is away and who is active. I see that idle people are like grayscaled, it would be fine if i could just grayscale everybody that was away and do something else distinct for idle ppl.
I don’t know how to skin Gaim exactly, but you might want to check out their skins page and try some of them out, see if you like any. Since everything is open source, too, you could take a look and see how a skin wirks, maybe you could even make your own and do exactly what you like with idle/active/away buddies.
Edit: Nevermind, that’s rather stupid. The Skins link on their homepage links to smiley themes. Upon further research, Gaim is only skinnable if you can manage to change your GTK+ for Windows theme, which I don’t know how to do at this point in time. So, your only choice is to look into the cource/files for Gaim, switch to Miranda or Trillian (or something else), or just live with the way Gaim was written.
GAIM wasn’t ment to be a full skinnable thing. I mean yes, go in and you can edit all the images (like I have and basicly made an Adium icon set), but as far as skinning GAIM, changing the way it looks, colors of your buddy list, you would need to go and do a whole lot in the code and pictures of GAIM to change anything too much. Like Spike said, Miranda or Trillian is better for that since they are built with a skinning engine and all.
I’ve wanted those chat bubbles like ichat has… and find it so tedious to do in Miranda.
Is there any chance of doing that in Gaim?
Trillian is a system hog and don’t want it if necessary.
