I tried this with my Jabra headset, and was sadly disappointed with the sound quality. For me, I had to route all audio to the headset (including music, etc.). What a drag.

March 26, 2006 at 1:39 am #140167Jeff HesterKeymasterThat’s what I found, and that’s exactly why I don’t use that.
The best solution I’ve found for Skype is one of the following. Either:
A regular stereo headset with the normal 1/8″ stereo mic jacks, plugged into a Y-splitter. This way, my headphones are always “on” but I can turn my speakers up or off depending on what I want. The splitter isn’t essential, but many times I prefer the speakers over headphones (not for Skype, but when listening to music), and the splitter saves me from swapping cables. Most stereo headsets will let you mute the mic directly.
Or,
A USB stereo headset. This actually will provide the best performance, and (assuming you have easily accessible USB ports) it’s easy to just plug it in whenever you want to use it. I have one of these, and it’s really handy, but… sometimes weird things happen. For instance, if I plug it in while music is playing through the speakers, the music sometimes won’t automatically be re-routed to the headphones until I shut down my player and restart it.
There are some new handsets that work with Skype. Most are USB, and there are a few that are wireless (though not Bluetooth). This lets you use Skype much more like a regular phone, which is nice.
But I am by no means the final word on this. There very well may be a great Bluetooth headset made specifically for this purpose. Don’t give up your search!

Note especially the “tech discussion” link at bottom of THIS article.
Good luck, cobber ! 🙂
